I am thrilled to be a part of this Sweet Treats Blog Hop today courtesy of Newton’s Nook Designs!  I love little treat ideas (and always seem to need one at the last minute!) so this is perfectly timed.

Sweet Treats Hop by Jen Timko for NND | Woodland Duos Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Darling Hearts Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsI have created little peat pot containers before but something about using them for Valentine’s Day seemed perfect for me this year.  They are super economical so I just get a package and have them on hand.  I used some floral wire to create a handle but you could totally go without one too.

Sweet Treats Hop Tag by Jen Timko | Woodland Duos Stamp and Darling Hearts Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsTo create this cute little tag, I stamped the heart woodgrain heart from the Woodland Duos Stamp Set with Berry Burst ink (SU) and then cut it out with the coordinating Darling Hearts Dies.  The “love” comes from the same die set and is so pretty in this berry pink.  To keep it from being too “girly”, I used corrugated kraft paper for the tag.  I like how it works with the peat pot too.  I tied the tag onto the handle with some Berry Burst ribbon.  The joy of this….easy to do in an assembly line for a class or for friends and family!

Sweet Treats Hop Top View by Jen Timko To fill, all I did was find some candy in a coordinating colors (yeah, I know, shopping with a paper swatch…I’m sure people thought I was a little off).  These happen to be chocolate and peanut butter.  I barely kept enough for my pictures before my boys were devouring them!!  I added some of the berry shredded paper as a final touch.

Sweet Hearts for Newton’s Nook Designs

Sweet Hearts for Newton’s Nook Designs published on 5 Comments on Sweet Hearts for Newton’s Nook Designs

Sweet Hearts by Jen Timko | Woodland Duos Stamp Set and Darling Hearts Dies by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnookToday I’m sharing a fun bonus card using the Woodland Duos Stamp Set by Newton’s Nook Designs.  When this set released in January, I have to admit that I first focused on the darling critters.  As I looked at the set more, though, I realized that these little heart images were ones that I needed to use as soon as possible!

I stamped the hearts using three colors (Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo from SU).  I used my Misti to make sure they were inked really well so you can see the fabulous detail of each heart.  Then using the little heart die from the coordinating Darling Hearts Dies I cut them out.  The hardest part of the card is lining up the hearts.  But I believe in smarter not harder!  You want to see how I did it to make it simple?  Yep, I thought so!I started by using my grid mat to line them up and get the spacing right. Then, I laid some Press and Seal Wrap onto the hearts so I could move them and keep their positioning. Finally, I added foam tape to the backs of the hearts and attached them to my white card stock.  Just carefully pull off the Press and Seal and the alignment is perfect.  And you look like a genius!  I added some retired SU washi tape along the sides of my card base.  I thought the pattern was a nice match to the patterns in the hearts.  The sentiment comes from another January release set, Love & Chocolate.  I added a little baker’s twine to the top to finish the card.

While this could certainly be a Valentine, I actually created this card as a birthday card for my youngest son who just turned 11.  He is such a great kid and he makes all of our lives a bit sweeter.  This is the absolute perfect sentiment for him!  Hope you have enjoyed my card and my tips.  Can’t wait to hear what you think!

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Woodland Duos

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Woodland Duos published on 41 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Woodland Duos

Today is the day I’ve been waiting for!  It is the first day of January Release Week at Newton’s Nook Designs and I finally get to share with you some of what I have been working on.  Today the design team is showing you the set called Woodland Duos and it is simply wonderful.  The adorable images are designed to coordinate with the existing Darling Hearts Dies.  You can see all the information about this set over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog!

Woodland Duos Owl Card by Jen Timko | Woodland Duos Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnookI thought the two little owls just called out to be colored so I started with them.  In my first go at coloring, I chose actual owl colors but somehoww I felt like I needed to brighten them up.  So brighten is what I did!  Using my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, I chose greens to color first and I thought it showed the fun art well.  So I continued with oranges and yellows!  I am super happy with the whimsical feel.  I used the big heart from the dies set to cut out the image and then added a panel of coordinating DSP.  For the sentiment, I used the dies again and cut out ‘love’ three times from my card stock.   I layered them together to get a nice dimensional feel.  Finally some little sequins to match the image.
