Sandra Girl for Picket Fence Studios

Sandra Girl for Picket Fence Studios published on 1 Comment on Sandra Girl for Picket Fence Studios

Today is my day over at the Picket Fence Studios blog!  I’m so happy I got a moment in my crazy week to color this gorgeous Sandra Girl image.  I have been in awe of her from the moment I saw her and now I have two of them.  Yep, two.  The original size (shown here) and Kiss Kiss Sandra Girl which has the image a little larger along with the sentiment I used today.  The original has a die coming out soon too!!

Beauty Lies Within by Jen Timko | Sandra Girl Stamp Set and Die by Picket Fence Studios, Kiss Kiss Sandra Girl Stamp by Picket Fence Studios, Random Dots Stencil by Picket Fence Studios, Copic Coloring, Distress Oxide Ink, Life Changing Blender Brushes by Picket Fence StudiosI colored her using Copic Markers (listed below in my Link Deli list) and just enjoyed working on her shading.  All of the girls really allow for practicing coloring skills and playing with skin and hair variations.  I thought pink would be a nice compliment to Sandra since she reminds me of a friend who happens to love pink.

I hope you enjoy this card.  Hop over to the Picket Fence Studios blog for more and for lots of inspiration from the design team each week.  Until next time, wishing a safe Memorial Day weekend (if you celebrate) full of thanks and remembrance.

Freshly Made Sketches #389

Another amazing sketch today from Freshly Made Sketches!!  No surprise that there is a tendency towards florals this week with our lovely sketch designer Narelle in charge.  Let’s face it, she is the queen of a gorgeous floral card!  Who am I to buck the trend?!  So I chose a brand new set that I just got from Altenew called Weekend Doodles.  I love the whimsical style of the flowers and wreaths of the set.

FMS389 by Jen Timko | Weekend Doodles Stamp Set and Dies by Altenew, Copic Coloring I chose the smaller floral and did a bit of Copic coloring on the image using some purples and a pretty sage green.  To stay truer to the sketch, I used a stitched circle and put the flowers up on the circle.  Look at that, following the sketch….you knew it had to happen eventually!!

FMS389 by Jen Timko | Weekend Doodles Stamp Set and Dies by Altenew, Copic ColoringTo play off of the green of the leaves, I chose a pale green (from my SU stash) that coordinated beautifully.  For the sentiment, I stamped one from the same set but then used the Cut Align (My Sweet Petunia) to cut only the part I wanted for the sketch.  This is a new to me tool and I’m already addicted to it!  Finally, I added a few sequins to finish.

This week’s sketch is one that is easy to use and such fun too.  I hope to see you in the gallery!!  Thank you so much for stopping in today!  See you soon!

As promised, I’m back to share another card I made for the May release from Picket Fence Studios and it does double duty with the newest sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  This versatile design by Karren Johnson is fabulous and I could not resist using the new Poppy Blossoms stamp and dies with it.

FMS388 by Jen Timko | Poppy Blossoms Stamp Set and Dies by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringThis new flower set has so many options and ways to use it.  You already know that I can’t resist a flower but it is even better when a set has lots of image choices.  I stamped the single flower and then colored using Copic Markers to give a pop of red.  I did keep some light space to help show off the pretty details of the image itself.  Once it was colored, I cut it out using the coordinating die for the focal point of the sketch.

FMS388 by Jen Timko | Poppy Blossoms Stamp Set and Dies by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringI chose one of the smaller flowers as the side “circles”.  I masked off the stem a bit with a sticky not and then stamped it twice on Neenah Desert Storm paper.  The sentiment comes from an older set called Unicorn Friends.  Pretty font, isn’t it?  I kept the card really neutral to show off that bold flower and simply added a few sequins.Just a reminder if you did not see it yesterday….  There is a celebration sale going on at Picket Fence Studios.  All you have to do is click here:  Picket Fence Studios Sale and enter the code PFS20 and you will get 20% off your order.  Additionally, I have a $100 Gift Certificate to give away.  It is an instagram giveaway so go over there to my page (jentimko) to see the details.  I hope you enjoy this and have a moment to join in our challenge this week.  Thanks for stopping in.  See you soon!

You want to know a something funny?  Even after all these years of being with Freshly Made Sketches, it makes me a little nervous to be the sketch designer.  The team has a running joke about struggling to work with one’s own sketch.  Crazy, right?  You see we create our sketches on paper or digitally and in all degrees of “doneness” so it can come as a surprise when you get to your own and you don’t really have a plan.  Well, this week, I actually had a bit of a plan!  YAY!!

FMS382 by Jen Timko | Let's Shake Our Tail Feathers Stamp by Picket Fence StudiosAs you may have gathered, I’m the designer for this week’s challenge and I went with a pretty classic vibe and an off center sentiment panel.  I made the focal panel a bit smaller so that the back panel can be the star, or a part of the design, or a simple base.  For me, I chose to use is as part of the design with a spotlight effect.  Using my trusty MISTI, I stamped on the base of my card using the Let’s Shake Our Tail Feathers stamp from Picket Fence Studios.  Then I flipped the base around 180 degrees and stamped again.  I did the same on a single panel that was the same size as the base to start.  Then I colored the panel using Copic Markers in purples and blues.  I probably colored a little more than I needed because I wasn’t sure how much I was going to cut down.  Once I was done coloring, I trimmed off equal amounts from each side until the balance looked right.  I love that pop of color with the detailing of the image!  I added a sentiment from the Forgot to Say Thank You set by stamping in Versamark and embossing in white.

I hope that you will enjoy using the sketch and I know you will love seeing what the design team has created with it.  Thanks so much for stopping in today and I will see you again soon!

Sunflower

I am sharing a card today that was almost a month in the making.  If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw my progress on coloring Taylored Expressions’ gorgeous Big Bloom – Sunflower image over the course of the Daily Marker 30 Day challenge in February.  I did a little at a time and tried to just enjoy the coloring process where it fit in.  You see, a year ago I had just attended the amazing Stamping Away retreat and the lovely Jen Shults had stamped a few extra images for me from her incredible Taylored Expressions stash.  Yes, it took me a year to finally decide to tackle this flower (and yes, there is actually another one for another time).  I am so grateful still for that retreat time and for all the inspiration I received.

Sunflower by Jen Timko | Big Blooms - Sunflower Stamp Set by Taylored Expressions, His Love Stamp Set by Right At Home, Copic ColoringAfter all the coloring, I finally had time to finish the fussy cutting and figured out what I was going to do with the image.  I thought that a basic kraft card stock was perfect under the earthy tones of the sunflower and I chose a simple sentiment by Right At Home from the His Love set.  It was really nice to make a card just because.  No deadline, no particular purpose (although I think I have a place for this to go now), just for me to have fun coloring.  I am committing to do that a little more where it fits in because it makes me happy!

Sunflower by Jen Timko | Big Blooms - Sunflower Stamp Set by Taylored Expressions, His Love Stamp Set by Right At Home, Copic ColoringNow there are a ton of Copic Markers that were used to create this.  I have linked a few below in my Link Deli but I will also just simply list them for you for simplicity.  I don’t think I have ever used this many markers on anything but it was worth the complexity, I think.

I’m out on a trip and more flying next week but in between, I will be getting some projects done for Picket Fence Studios and the March release.  I hope you have an amazing weekend and I’ll see you soon!  Thanks for stopping in today.

Picket Fence Studios February Release Day!

Picket Fence Studios February Release Day! published on 3 Comments on Picket Fence Studios February Release Day!

Hi everyone!  It is one of my favorite days…release day!  Every single month Picket Fence Studios gives us so much to use for creating and this month is no exception.  Another amazing release!!  So I’m going to get right to my cards.

I Love Your Face Light Up by Jen Timko | I Love Your Face Stamp Set and Dies by Picket Fence Studios, Chibitronics Chibi Lights, Light Up CardFirst up, I used this super cute selfie cat to create an interactive card.   The name of the stamp is I Love Your Face and it is such fun.  I colored the kitty to look a bit like my little Meg.  We decided that Kate is far too dignified for selfies but Meg, well, she would totally be taking them!  But then I wanted to take it a step further.

I Love Your Face Light Up by Jen Timko | I Love Your Face Stamp Set and Dies by Picket Fence Studios, Chibitronics Chibi Lights, Light Up CardSo I created an interactive light up card using Chibitronics Chibi lights.  So when you push the cat’s paw, the camera “flashes”.  I used my bone folder here to keep my hand out of the way.  I dimmed the lights a bit too so you can see the light better.  I’ll post a quick video over on my FB and IG pages later today.  The foundation of this card is pretty simple.  I used stitched dies to cut out the square of patterned paper.  Then I used the actual die and traced inside it to make sure I knew where my boundaries are.  I built the simple circuit and then poked a small hole in the paper under the cat’s paw so the light could shine through well.  I think this is fun for anyone, don’t you?

Own Kind of Beauty by Jen Timko | Shop Hard Stamp Set and Dies by Picket Fence Studios, Let's Shake Our Tail Feathers Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringNext up, I chose a set from the “Girls” series and this one is called Shop Hard.  Now, I chose this image because it reminds me of one of my neighbor girls.  So much so that I showed her mom (and mom agreed).  This girl is like family to us and she is such a beauty.  How could I not color her??  So out came the Copics and I chose some colors I thought would be right.  While I love the sentiments in the set, they were not quite right for this girl (she is a super athlete and doesn’t have much time for shopping).  Instead, I chose one from the new set called Let’s Shake Our Tail Feathers.  I think it is perfect for a teenage girl!

The whole team will be sharing today and I hope you enjoy my cards.  Make sure you go check out the whole release over at the Picket Fence Studios site!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Picket Fence Studios January Release – Aeonium African Succulent

Picket Fence Studios January Release – Aeonium African Succulent published on 6 Comments on Picket Fence Studios January Release – Aeonium African Succulent

As promised I’m back today with more details on my card using the new Aeonium African Succulent set from Picket Fence Studios.  So the second I saw this, I knew the color palette that I wanted to use.  Why you ask?  Because I have a little set of plants on my kitchen table that were chosen by my 12 yo son.  He is a total character and he has a tendency to name things.  There is no rhyme or reason to the names but they are always funny.  So introducing Timmy, Jimmy and Timmy Jr.

SucculentsWhile I was coloring the image, he would come down as ask me how Timmy was doing.  Or I’d say I was going to hang out with Timmy.  To be fair, the coloring of this happened over about 4 days.  No, it wasn’t a whole 4 days….I just did it in bits and pieces because it does take a bit of time and blending. But oh is it worth it!!

Beautiful by Jen Timko | Aeonium African Succulent Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Rose Bouquet Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringI stamped the image using Momento Tuxedo Black Ink.  I used my Misti (of course) to get perfect coverage for such a big image.  I shaded first with the lighter colors and then came in with darker ones to add depth.  It took a bit of going back and forth for the the transitions to blend out but just be patient.  Here are the colors I used:

Copic ColorsAfter I was done with the coloring, I cut the image out. I debated cutting the size down but just couldn’t bear to lose any of the image.  So instead, I chose to make a 5″ x 5″ card.  So what about an envelope for that?  No problem.  I made one!  I used an Envelope Punch Board and some pretty purple card stock (Gorgeous Grape by Stampin’ Up) to create one that is perfect for the card.  Behind the image I used Fog Gray card stock to give a little richness and depth without taking away from the image.  I splattered it with ink before adding the image.  The sentiment comes from the Rose Bouquet set (should look familiar, I used it on Friday) and I simply put it on black card stock with Versamark and heat embossed in white.  I added a few sequins, of course, to complement the splatters.

I hope this card inspires you to get out your Copics and mix colors.  It is easier than you think!  Even with green and purple (see Lydia’s discussion on breaking the “rules”).  I’ll be back tomorrow with another of the cards from the release.  See you then!

Picket Fence Studios January Release

FINALLY!  I can share some of the new sets for the Picket Fence Studios January release!  This release is timed to coordinate with the reveal of the same products at Creativation and I’m so excited to show you some of the products.  In order to keep this post in check, today I’m mostly just going to show you three projects.  Then I’ll come back over the next few days to give you more of the details on each.  Let me know what you think of that method or if you’d rather just see one long post.  I’m curious what works better for you.  With that, let’s get to the cards!

Faith Before Worry by Jen Timko | Wild Heart, Gypsy Soul Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Exhale Worry Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Daniel Smith WatercolorsThe first of the day used a new set called Wild Heart, Gypsy Soul.  It has a boho style that is unique and really beautiful.  I chose watercolor as my medium and went with a loose style of coloring.  The sentiment is from another new set called Exhale Worry.  It needs to be on your must-have list!

Miss You by Jen Timko | Today Is All About You Stamp Set and Dies by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringNext up is a card using Today Is All About You.  It is so cute and the little selfie (or in my case, it seems like FaceTime) llama is hilarious.  I colored her using Copic Markers and used the coordinating die to cut her out.

Beautiful by Jen Timko | Aeonium African Succulent Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Rose Bouquet Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringFinally is a seriously spectacular image.  It is called Aeonium African Succulent.  It is a large image and it is unbelievable!!  I have a funny story about my color choices that I’ll share tomorrow so make sure you come back for more info.  I colored this using Copic Markers and then cut it out by hand.  It is on a base of Fog Gray card stock.

Now make sure you hop around and see what the team has created.  Between us all, we are showing the whole release.  And I hope you’ll come back for all the details on this cards starting tomorrow.  Until then, have a great weekend!

Kiesha Rocks!

Happy Friday everyone!  A quick post today to show you a card I’m sharing over at the Picket Fence Studios blog today!  I got a little bit of stamping time and I just HAD to color this gorgeous new girl named Kiesha!

Kiesha Rocks by Jen Timko| Keisha Stamp Set and Dies by Picket Fence Studios, #girlboss Louise Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic Skin Tones, Copic ColoringI stamped Kiesha using the Picket Fence Hybrid Ink with my Misti.  Then I started playing with her shading.  I learned something from Lydia recently about adding a violet hue to ethnic skin colors for depth.  Wow, what a difference a little makes!

Keisha Rocks by Jen Timko | Kiesha Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, #girlboss Louise Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic Skin Tones, Copic ColoringOnce I had her skin tones like I wanted, I delved into her hair.  Just look at the lovely art there!  All the details in the image are mesmerizing.  I played with grays and browns to create some highlights.  Still need to work on the shading for dark hair but I’m overall happy with my first attempt on this image.

I hope you like this one too and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.  Make sure you go check out the whole line of “Girl” stamps too.  They are all gorgeous!!  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I hope you have a fabulous day!

All Fun and Games Until…

Happy Friday to you!  I’m here with a quick share of a card I created for the Picket Fence Studios blog.  I’m super behind on Christmas cards so it is a good think they have stamps that practically make the card for you!!

All Fun and Games by Jen Timko | Santa's Sleigh Ride Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Summer Glitter Paper Pack by Concord and 9th, Copic ColoringI love these fun reindeer and the sentiments from the Santa’s Sleigh Ride set.  I colored them quickly with Copics after stamping them with Picket Fence Studios’ Black Hybrid Ink. (Don’t forget to enter my GIVEAWAY over on Instagram for a chance to win this awesome ink.)  I created a chalkboard look for the background after embossing the sentiment with white embossing powder.  Super simple to do and I love this look!  Things needed a bit more holiday cheer so I found a retired candy cane paper from SU and some green glitter paper from Concord and 9th to add color.  Then I added some colored pearls to finish.

I hope you enjoy this one!  So glad you stopped in today!  Hope you have a great weekend….lots of fun and games!  As long as you remember that Santa eventually checks that list!
