Freshly Made Sketches #519

Freshly Made Sketches #519 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #519

Hi everyone! Another week has flown by and I hope you are doing well. I’m the sketch hostess this week over at Freshly Made Sketches. There are lots of ways to go with this one but I had a specific stamp set in mind.

My friend Linda Callahan sent me this stamp set from Colorado Craft Company (Snowmen and Bunnies) and I finally got a chance to use it. This sketch is PERFECT for the images. I stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and got to coloring with my Copic Markers. The first thing I did was put a base layer on the dark blue background (B37) to help me judge the rest of the color depth.

I played with the concept of coloring “white” for the snowman. Using a base of my Toner Grays (T2, T1, T0), I added a pale purple to give it a little more of an icy depth. Pretty happy with the result and this larger image is the perfect place to play with shading. After I finished the coloring, I masked the border around the image and then splattered on some Gouache to mimic snow. The sentiment is from the same stamp set and pretty much sums up the weather we have been having in Virginia lately. I actually love snow (when I don’t have to drive or fly in it).

I hope you will come over and join the fun this week. Our team has created beautiful projects, as always, so make sure to leave them some love. Thanks for stopping in. See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #518

Hi everyone! Happy to share the latest from Freshly Made Sketches this week. Our sketch designer Judy Rozema had given us a sketch that is sure to get you crafting! I love the simple circle in the corner which can be taken literally or used for another shape. I opted for another shape.

I’m definitely slow out of the gate when I haven’t been crafting much and I needed something that was just an easy color. I shuffled through the stamp stash and saw this Be The Change stamp set from Ellen Hutson and knew it was just right. I stamped the moth and colored using my BG 70 series and T series Copic Markers. It seemed a little too clean so I decided to add some stenciling behind the image for a little more pop.

To match the color in the moth, I had to blend two Distress Oxide Colors. On top of the Basketweave stencil from Honey Bee Stamps, I blended Iced Spuce and then some Tumbled Glass on top. The sentiment comes from another Ellen Hutson set, the Mondo Gerbera Daisy. Finally I added some Sparkling Clear sequins using Honey Bee Stamps Precision Glue.

I hope you are doing well in this new year. Still been busy with work and now this week I’m enjoying time with my oldest before he heads back to college. Thanks so much for stopping in today. See you soon!

Sending Happy Your Way

Happy New Year!!! As promised, I was working A LOT over the holidays. Out again today but I did have a minute to make a card this week. Amazing how the break in creating makes it hard to get back to it. I just kind of sat in the craft room. Started cleaning up from the holiday mess and then inked up some Copic Markers that needed love. I finally got some inspiration from this wonderful new to me set from the Ink Blot Shop. You know that I love small shops and she is absolutely the nicest owner! Stop over to visit her! I don’t have an affiliate, I just appreciate an owner who is wonderful to the crafting community and Tiffany is just that.

I fell in love with this Giant Rainbow Stamp Set the second I saw it. It has a coordinating stencil but I just wanted to use those freshly inked Copics. And coloring is almost always the best way to get my mojo back. I chose simple rainbow colors and added just a little shading.

I originally planned to make a single layer card but then I realized how easy this was to cut out. So I did that and popped it up on a base that I brushed with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink. The sentiment is from the same set an there are a few all meant to coordinate perfectly with the rainbow.

Ok, that’s it. I hope you had a happy and safe holiday season. I hope to get back to more creating over the next few weeks but I have to admit that I’ll be doing a bit of mom time. My oldest is home from college for a bit longer so I’m going to enjoy that as much as he can stand. Thanks so much for stopping in. See you soon!

Merry Christmas

I am over on Instagram for Honey Bee Stamps today but a quick share here as well. I created these as a simplified version of a card I did during the Vintage Holiday release. A bit better for mass production, which is inevitably where I end up this time of year.

I inked up a panel of Hammermill white card stock with Salvaged Patina Oxide Ink and then ran it though with the Pierced Fancy Flakes Cover Plate. I love the piercing detail! After I got a few of them done, I took them over to my splatter box (just a cardboard box) and sprayed with Hero Arts Iridescent Shimmer Spray. This shine takes this to a new level!

I cut the “merry” using the Bitty Buzzwords: Holiday Honey Cuts and added the “Christmas” from the Tag You’re It: Holiday Stamp Set. I love the gold with the Salvaged Patina!! A few gold pearls from my stash to finish.

Thank you for stopping in today! I suspect this will be my last post until after Christmas. I’m going to pick up my oldest from college today and then next week starts the busy season for my flying! Lots and lots of holiday flying! Normally, that is hard but I’m happy to see people traveling to their families this year.

I appreciate each of you so much and sending you best wishes for a very happy holiday season!!

I have a special version of our FMS challenge this week. Every year the team takes a two week break so we leave the last sketch of the year open through the holidays. Well, this is the one. Our lovely Narelle has created the perfect sketch for your last minute holiday card, your “moving on from the holidays” cards or just to goof around with some down time cards. We hope you will come over and join us!

My card falls into the first category and I’m pulling out all the tools for shortening the creating time. In this card, using patterned paper with dies! I went back to the Pine Trees Honey Cuts Dies from Honey Bee Stamps because I thought they were a good fit for the sketch. Yet again, the Vintage Holiday Paper Pack provides all the color and texture I wanted.

My other work horse of this holiday season has been the Inside: Holiday Sentiments set. So many great sentiments that are a fantastic size. I just popped up the trees and the sentiment on foam tape for more dimension. This background print is so pretty I just opted not to add additional embellishments.

Thanks for stopping in today. I will be sharing a little over the next couple of weeks but this will be a quiet stamping time for me. I’ll be flying a lot over the holidays so when I am home, I’ll be taking as much family time as I can. If you are out traveling, look for me. I’ll be all over the domestic US system! And please, please if you are flying, be extra nice to all of those people working. Pack your patience, add extra time and follow the guidelines for your mode of transport. All of us just want to get you there as safely and drama-free as possible! I hope you have a lovely rest of your week. See you soon.

SPD Mix 86 and FMS 515

I have a combination project for you today using two of my favorite challenges. I have the latest SugarPea Designs Mix It Up Challenge combined with Freshly Made Sketches #515. The SPD Mix is a refreshingly non-holiday look and our sketch designer Karren at FMS gave us a clean classic that can be used lots of ways.

I used the fun candles and colors as my inspiration on this. The Birthday Wishes stamp set from SugarPea Designs was perfect, don’t you think? I love the fun patterns on the candles! I stamped them to match this pretty paper from Honey Bee Stamps using Catherine Pooler Inks.

There are tons of fun sentiments in the stamp set but this one seemed right for a card to add to my stash. Then I noticed the confetti in the inspiration photo so I added some confetti sequins!

I hope you will come over and play along with the challenges! Thanks for stopping in. See you soon!

Season’s Greetings

Just a quick share today. This watercolored card using a gorgeous stamp set from Pinkfresh Studio called Season’s Greetings.

I fell in love with this beautiful wreath and did a simple watercolor on it. Nothing fancy, for sure. Then I die cut it with its coordinating die. The sentiment from the same set fits beautifully in the middle and I simply added a few splatters. That’s it! Easy!

Thanks for stopping in. I’m trying to finish up the last of my holiday cards and get them in the mail this week. Wish me luck! See you soon.

Merry and Bright

I was in a bit of a creative funk a couple of weeks ago and needed to create without a real purpose. I watched the amazingly talented Dawn Woleslagle (of Wplus9 Design) when she was teaching a Live on her FB page and was super inspired. I rarely CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) but for today’s card, that is exactly what I did. And I’m so glad!

Naturally, when Dawn made her card, she used greenery from her line of stamps but I just sent with what I had. And what I had was a couple of sets from The Greetery. I started with a piece of Evergreen card stock (C9) and stamped the background leaves in Evergreen ink. On top of that, I stamped a different leave group in Mowed Lawn Oxide Ink, trying to keep it a bit shadowy.

Once I had the leaves done, I chose this big banner sentiment from the Be Merry set (WPlus9). I stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder for a bolder look. I then splattered using some Hero Arts Metallic Ink in Gold and with white gouache.

Dawn has not posted her card yet but I’m sure she will at some point. In the mean time, just go over and admire all the beautiful things she creates at her Instagram page HERE. Thanks for stopping by today! See you soon.

Freshly Made Sketches #514

Happy Wednesday! For those in the US, I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. Back with today’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge and we have a great one from designer Cécile.

As I was looking through my stamps fro this, I knew I wanted snowflakes for the three little elements but wasn’t sure what else. And then…yep, the mice. Merry Little Mice from Honey Bee Stamps to be exact. I love this fun fellow and I thought he was just the right size for the sketch. I stamped him in Momento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copic Markers.

I leaned on the Vintage Holiday Paper Pack again for the background and then thought it might be fun to use another print for the circle. This houndstooth was perfect. I did make the card a 5″x5″ so that I could keepa bit more of the background detail. I pulled the snowflakes from the Riding By…Holiday Style stamp set and the sentiment is from Inside: Holiday Sentiments (all from Honey Bee Stamps). Hard to see in the photo but I added a little Wink of Stella Clear on the white parts of the image for some sparkle.

Thanks for stopping in today. I will be back later in the week with some holiday cards. See you then!

Super quick today. Sharing for the latest amazing sketch for Freshly Made Sketches. This week we have one from designer Jen Brum and it is wonderful!

A funny thing happened on the way to posting today. I made the card and then forgot to take a photo before leaving on a work trip. So my 15 yo son took the photo for me, complete with setting up props. What a great kid!!

I pulled out some of my season favorites from Honey Bee Stamps (listed below). Love how the dies and paper did most of the work. More flying tomorrow and I’m pretty tired so I’ll send you off to the FMS for all the inspiration from the awesome team. Thanks for stopping in today! For this in the US, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. If you are flying today or tomorrow, look for me in the system!
