Newton’s Nook Designs Holiday Release – Snow Globe Scenes and Shaker Dies

Newton’s Nook Designs Holiday Release – Snow Globe Scenes and Shaker Dies published on 32 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs Holiday Release – Snow Globe Scenes and Shaker Dies

Welcome to day 2 of the Holiday Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  After a spectacular start to this week, I’m back today with another must-have set of products.  Yes indeed, a snow globe!!  Oh, the possibilities!

Santa Snow Globe by Jen Timko | Snow Globe Scenes Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Snow Globe Shaker Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsWhat is it about a shaker card that makes everyone happy?  No one can resist them!  And when the shaker is a snow globe?  It is sure to be a holiday hit!  As usual, the hardest part of my card was narrowing down which images to use.  Because I love them all!  I settled on the little houses and Santa because well, it is Santa!!  I loved the idea of using silver, navy and white to create an adorable winter scene for my snow globe.  And it is super fun to do.  I find it easier to show you in a video so I created a tutorial for you.

Direct link to the video:  Snow Globe Scenes Shaker Card

Make sure you take note of the foam and acetate sheet packs that will be available on Friday.  These are a great deal and you’ll want them on hand for all kinds of projects.

I said yesterday how much I love sentiment sets…just take a look at how perfectly Snow Globe Scenes coordinates with Sentiment of the Season from yesterday.  When font styles coordinate for the insides and outsides of a card, that makes like so easy for the holidays!

I hope you are having fun so far with this release!  And it is only day 2.  So many pretty products!!  Of course, the post isn’t complete without a chance to win!

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Newton’s Costume Party

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Newton’s Costume Party published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Newton’s Costume Party

Welcome to the last day of the September release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  I know you have been waiting for it so here it is…NEWTON!  In costumes!  Oh my goodness, this set could not be even a little cuter!

Trick or Treat by Jen Timko | Newton's Costume Party Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringSeriously…if you love Halloween, you will just fall in love with this set.  An adorable Newton with costumes of all kinds.  The hardest part for today’s post was choosing which one to start with!  I thought that the little bee was hilarious (and I always think little kids dressed like bees are too sweet for words).  Jen and Jeff have made this set perfect for quick cards too.  All you have to do is stamp and cut out the images.  Easy layering for fast and fun cards!  I did just that.  I stamped the bee suit and the wings, plus the kitty and cut them out with the matching dies.  I did some quick Copic coloring and then dug through my stash of patterned papers to find some that matched.  I thought this yellow striped paper was perfect behind my little kitty bee.  Oh, and take a closer look a the coloring.

Trick or Treat Close Up by Jen Timko | Newton's Costume Party Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic Coloring, Wink of StellaI added a little bit of Wink of Stella to the wings.  Because every bee needs shimmery wings, don’t you think?  Now I get to play with the rest of the costumes.  You are sure to want to do the same!  And now for the part you always love!!

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release AND Freshly Made Sketches

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release AND Freshly Made Sketches published on 27 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs September Release AND Freshly Made Sketches

Welcome to day 3 of the September release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Hold on because I have A LOT to share with you today.  First of all, Newton’s Nook Designs has two (yes TWO) sets to share today.  And then, well, it is Wednesday so it is also Freshly Made Sketches day.  I did a little multi-tasking so that I could keep everything to one post.  Are you ready??

FMS304 by Jen Timko | Beautiful Bones Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Black Glitter Embossing Powder by WOW!, Sugar SkullFirst up is this marvelous new set called Beautiful Bones.  These images are simply awesome and if you love sugar skulls, this set is going to blow you away.  I also used the fun sketch from Freshly Made Sketches designed by the sweet and talented Amy O’Neill.  This sketch was a natural to combine with the NND set!!  I lined up the images using my Misti (makes is super simple to make sure they are straight).  Once I knew the placement, I put some Bristol paper under the images (uninked) and figured out where I wanted the watercoloring to be.  I used my Zig Clean Color Markers and added the bright colors…super fast and so striking with the set.  Next I stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  I added some Wow brand Black Glitter Embossing Power and heat embossed.  You should see how cool the glitter looks in person!  I pulled a sentiment from Beautiful Plumage and stamped/embossed it too.  I added some extra splatters and then some rhinestones (colored with a Sharpie) for a little more sparkle.  The perfect card to send out to some family members who live in Mexico and have fun with Day of the Dead celebrations. No Bones About It by Jen Timko | Spooky Skeletons Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Chibitronics, Chibi Card, Xray card, Studio Katia Dotted Shaker TagFor the next set called Spooky Skeletons, I created a card to look like an X-ray.  Now, I would love to say that the X-ray was all my idea but sadly, no.  My oldest son saw the stamp set when I first got it and told me “that would make a cool X-ray…can you do that?”  Why yes I can!!  I used Chibitronics and two white lights from the kit to backlight this image.  I stamped the kitty skeleton on vellum and put that layer underneath another vellum piece surrounded by the cute tag.  I helps conceal the Chibi tape and still let’s you see the lights easily.  Want to see it lit up??  Of course you do!  My trusty assistant (my oldest) helped me by pushing the ribbon on the tag.  For some reason the lights seem way brighter in the video but it has a distinctly X-ray look in person.  He LOVED it so mission accomplished!

I hope you enjoy all of today’s products.  Remember that there are matching dies with the stamps too!  And on to someone getting to win!

Would you like to win the “Beautiful Bones” or “Spooky Skeletons” Stamp Set?
These sets will be given away to ONE lucky winner each!

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Creepy Cameos

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Creepy Cameos published on 14 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Creepy Cameos

Welcome to day 2 of the September release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Are you ready for a little bit of Halloween??  I thought that might be a yes!  You are in luck because today we are featuring a new stamp set called Creepy Cameos.  It has its own coordinating die set but there is also an additional frame die that is awesome called, simply, Cameo Die.

So don’t fall over from shock.  Do you see all that distressing??  Did you know I still knew how to do this, haha?!  Well, admittedly, I wasn’t sure either.  Let’s face it, clean is kind of where I go these days but somehow my first vision with this set was all about vintage and shabby.  So out came Distress Ink and my old distressing tool (pretty impressed that I even found it) and off I went.  I took a reinker and dyed some vanilla ribbon the purple color, then added in some black ink too.  My fingers “may” have been purple for the rest of the day.  The real fun came with the frame.  Choosing which image to feature was a tough one.  But this “bride of Frankenstein” was too awesome to ignore!  I cut two of the frames with the Cameo Die from an old Halloween designer paper and stacked them so that I could curl one up on the edges for dimension.  I sponged around the image (cut with the set’s coordinating dies) and put her up on some Dimensionals.  Just imagine all the things you can do with these frames and fun cameos!  I added the sentiment from the set onto a DSP sheet that I inked and distressed.  I did laugh that even in my distressing, this has a clean vibe to it.  Ah well, it was fun to get creative with a style a little outside my box.  I encourage you to do the same when you can!!  And now for the fun part

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Shades of Autumn and Falling Leaves

Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Shades of Autumn and Falling Leaves published on 29 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Shades of Autumn and Falling Leaves

Welcome to day 1 of the September release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Fall is definitely in the air and Newton’s Nook is ready!  We are starting off with a beautiful set called Shades of Autumn and a brand new stencil, Falling Leaves.  Both are fabulous!

Give Thanks by Jen Timko | Shades of Autumn Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Cross Stitched Dies, Distress Oxide InkThe detail on these images is really special and I wanted to make sure I showed the stamp detail as much as possible.  I thought that using the Distress Oxide Ink would do just that.  The ink is a bit thicker than some of the dye inks and grabs onto the stamp differently.  And then you have the added benefit of how it moves with water.  So I stamped the leaves and then spritzed with some water to get the ink run just a little.  Then I added some additional splatters with the ink and water mixed together.  The sentiment from the the set is such a nice size and fit perfectly with the leaves.  I cut out the panel with Cross-Stitched Rectangles Dies and the mounted on a base of Audrey Blue card stock cut with the same.  There are more fun leaves in this set and I can’t wait to play some more with them.  Of course, there are coordinating dies that makes your layering super easy.  And this stencil is GORGEOUS…perfect for all of your fall projects!  And now for the part you always love!!

Rainy Day

Rainy Day published on 2 Comments on Rainy Day

Rainy Day by Jen Timko | Newton's Rainy Day Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook, Chameleon Pens, Chameleon Color TopsToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and given the news from Texas, my inspiration for this isn’t too hard to guess.  I thought that Newton’s Rainy Day was the perfect set for creating a card right now.

As soon as I pulled out this image with the big umbrella, I thought that my new Chameleon Color Tops would be fun to use.  And yep, was I right!  The shading on each panel was created by starting with a base color pen and then infusing with another color.  So my Fuchsia (PK5) pen was infused with Mellow Yellow (YO2) and what a cool effect, don’t you think?!  Same with the Turquoise (BG3) (infused with Mellow Yellow).  For the duck I used Mellow Yellow infused with Tangerine (OR3).  The kitty is Neutral Gray (NG4).

I combined “regular” Chameleon use with the Color Tops on this and it is amazing how much fun it was to experiment with color options.  Once I finished coloring, I was looking for just the right background when this one virtually jumped out at me.  Um, yeah…the ombré yellow from the Color Theory DSP matched perfectly!  I created a little frame and added some sequins and left most of the focus on this adorable image and its bright colors.  I hope you like my Newton’s extra this month.  So glad you stopped in to see me.  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, have a great day!

Stamp: Newton’s Rainy Day (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Momento Tuxedo Black, Chameleon Pens, Chameleon Color Tops; Paper:  Strathmore Mixed Media, Color Theory DSP (SU); Accessories:  Big Shot, Newton’s Rainy Day Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS), Misti, White Baker’s Twine, Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh), Mini Dimensionals

Newton’s Nook Designs and Chibitronics Inspiration Week plus a Giveaway

Newton’s Nook Designs and Chibitronics Inspiration Week plus a Giveaway published on 17 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs and Chibitronics Inspiration Week plus a Giveaway

This week Newton’s Nook Designs and Chibitronics are partnering for a fabulous inspiration week! All week long both design teams will be sharing ways to light up your cards using Chibi lights with Newton’s Nook Designs stamps!  This is a match just made to work together since so many of the NND sets have features that are perfect for lighting up.

Always Be Brave by Jen Timko | Knight's Quest Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Chibitronics, Light Up Card, Chibi LightsAs soon as I heard about the collaboration, my first thought was this dragon from Knight’s Quest.  I just knew that somehow he had to have “real” fire!  I started by coloring the images with Copic Markers (I have colors listed in my YouTube video).  I cut the hills using the Land Borders Dies (NND) and stitched rectangles dies (SSS).  My base is the new Tranquil Tide card stock (a Stampin’ Up In Color) that is sponged with Night of Navy ink.  The hills are Night of Navy and Smoky Slate (SU).  I put one of the red lights behind the fire and yellow lights behind the windows to create this awesome interactive card.  Want to see it lit?!

Always Be Brave Lit Up by Jen Timko | Knight's Quest Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Chibitronics, Chibi LightsIt is so awesome in person too!  I created a short video to show you a few more specifics on how I created the circuit and the “switch” for this.  Things I learned along the way….Think of a fun place for the switch so that it is easy for the recipient, make sure you press the copper tape on really well (I used a bone folder), check your circuits before gluing stuff down (I may have checked a few too many time, haha).  The kit comes with great directions on building your circuits.  Mine is a pretty basic parallel circuit.  Here is my video so you can see the rest:

Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Knight’s Quest

Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Knight’s Quest published on 19 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Knight’s Quest

Welcome to day 3 of the August release from Newton’s Nook Designs (this is post 2 for today, keep scrolling if looking for Freshly Made Sketches).  You definitely needed something to go with the princess and what better than this new little knight in Knight’s Quest?!

Hear Ye Hear Ye by Jen Timko | Knight's Quest Stamp by Newton's Nook Designs, Magic Slider Card, Zig Clean Color MarkersI took a bit of a break from all the girly pink to create this fun magic slider card.  I had never made one of these are they are cool to make!  (and disclaimer…almost impossible to photograph!!)  I stamped the images using my Misti onto Strathmore Bristol paper using Versafine Onyx Black Ink.  Then I stamped it again on a window sheet using Stazon (make sure you clean your stamps immediately but not using the Stazon cleaner since it will damage photopolymer stamps).  I colored the image on the Bristol paper using my Zig Clean Color Markers.  My slider was created using the Sea Borders Dies to give a little place to pull.  I used some retired DSP from SU as the frame for our brave fellow and added the little arrow from the set to show that the panel should be pulled.  Want to see it in action?!

You can also see it on the direct link here:  Magic Slider Card

I wanted to finish the announcement idea so I finished the inside of the card with an actual announcement from the set.  Just a quick stamp and color of the trumpet and this sentiment is adorable.  Hear Ye (inside) by Jen TimkoI love the idea of this card for a little boy who loves knights, don’t you?!  Just so great to have a set that is perfect for little boys (and big ones since mine were obsessed with playing around with the slider).  And you can get the set free for yourself!

Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration Blog Hop

Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration Blog Hop published on 45 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration Blog Hop

First of all, today is the day that the 4 Year Celebration release goes live over at Newton’s Nook Designs.  To continue the fun, we are having a blog hop and I’m so thrilled to be a part of it.

Reach for the Stars by Jen Timko | Cosmic Newton Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Starfield Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Perfect Pearls, Land Border Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsI told you yesterday that my favorite set from this release was Cosmic Newton (but seriously, choosing a favorite is like choosing a favorite ice cream…I love them all!).  I used the new Stampin’ Up Embossing paste with the Starfield stencil on watercolor paper to start off my background.  Next I added Chipped Sapphire Distress ink by painting it on with a brush.  I got some of the light and dark coloring with that but wanted a little more dark.  So I pulled out the trusty acetate and smooshed some more ink on, spritzed with water and applied to the panel.  After it dried a bit, I spritzed on a Perfect Pearls mixture (in a spritzer with the powder and some water) to get a shine on the panel.  And finally, I splattered on some Smooch Ink to add some extra “stars).  I added a bit more of the Perfect Pearls onto the stars to help them pop.  For the trees behind Newton, I used the Land Borders Dies.  I was thrilled when it looked like the tops of trees in the shadows.  Finally, I colored Newton and his telescope with some more Distress Ink.  What a fun card to make!!  This set just lends itself to fabulous backgrounds and tons of creativity!

I’m sure you notice how much fun I have had with the stencils this week.  Well, there is a great deal that you are sure to love!So pretty much you can get the Pawprints stencil free on the order you were already going to make!  WIN!!  And speaking of winning…there is even MORE to win this week.
