Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Blooming Botanicals and Framework Dies published on 27 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Blooming Botanicals and Framework Dies

Welcome to day 1 of the May Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This week is just full of amazing products and I can’t wait to share.  Today, we start off with a gorgeous floral set called Blooming Botanicals and a die set that is a must have.

You Matter by Jen Timko | Blooming Botanicals Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Frames and Flags Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringCan I confess that I’m all in on florals right now?  So this set made me jump for joy when I saw it.  Just look at all those lovely flowers to color!!  I opted to stamp the whole image onto white card stock with Momento Tuxedo Black ink.  Then I stamped it again so I could have a couple of flowers to color and fussy cut individually.  With the whole image was cut out using the Frames and Flags Dies combined with the Framework Dies (for the insert).  These sets are meant for mixing and matching!  Love that!

You Matter by Jen Timko | Blooming Botanicals Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Frames and Flags Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringI colored the flowers in shades of yellow and orange using my Copic markers, added a few leaves and cut them all out.  Then on some Bristol Smooth paper, I sponged on some yellow and orange Distress Inks to coordinate with the flowers.  I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set onto the panel and the put it behind the window using foam dots (Dimensionals).

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the team has done with this amazing set and the great dies.  Make sure to go see what they have created!  Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week.  A chance to win!!

Sending Hugs for Layton’s Legacy

Sending Hugs for Layton’s Legacy published on 2 Comments on Sending Hugs for Layton’s Legacy

I have an extra card to share with you today in support of Layton’s Legacy.  I’m sure many of you saw the amazing work being done to launch this card drive and fundraiser yesterday and I’m up on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog today with my card made for the card drive.

This drive is the dream of Lea Lawson as a way to honor her sweet little boy Layton.  Please read the story about this tiny warrior and his amazing parents.  While he was in the NICU getting some of the world’s finest care, Lea and her husband found themselves in emotional anguish and exhausted.  At one point, someone gave them a Starbucks gift card so they could walk across the street from the hospital for a small break.  Lea speaks of that moment bringing tears to her since for a small moment it felt like someone was taking care of her and her husband.

This story is heartbreaking and yet heartwarming at the same time.  Because to honor Layton’s second birthday, she is choosing to bring good to other parents at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.  She is doing a card drive and a fundraiser to buy more Starbucks cards so that other families in the same situation can feel like people are looking out for them and remembering them.  You can find out how to donate HERE and know that your donation may even make you the winner of some amazing prizes.  Yes, in all of this, she has sponsors that are sharing generously to help encourage generous giving.  This crafting community is truly a blessing!!One of the sponsors is Newton’s Nook Designs.  I created my card for today using the mood board for the Layton’s Legacy Hop and will be sending it to Lea as a way to deliver one of her gift cards.  I ask that you consider doing the same.  Think about how special a handmade card would be for any of these families and we have the power to bring a smile and love to someone who could really use it.Sending Hugs by Jen Timko | Cottage Garden Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sending Hugs Stamp Set by Newton's Nook DesignsI love the color choices Lea gave us and the wonderful pictures provide so much inspiration.  Using the little animals, I immediately thought of Cottage Garden and stamped the owl in a pretty teal color.  Then I chose to add some yellow flowers for a pop of color.  The rest of the card is based on the chevron curtains and the gray room palette.

I hope you will join Lea and help her pay it forward with her event.  If you do make a card, make sure to link it up HERE.

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Little Lilies and April Showers

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Little Lilies and April Showers published on 27 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Little Lilies and April Showers

Welcome to the last day of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This has been an amazing month and we are finishing off with style!!  Two, yes two, more stamp sets to show you today.  Woohoo!!  Both of these are just what you need to bring a little spring sunshine into your craft room!

Just Because by Jen Timko | Little Lilies Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Stitched Circle Scallop Frames by MFT StampsFirst up is Little Lilies.  I love these sweet little flowers so much and literally ran right down to stamp with it when it arrived on my doorstep.  I colored the flower with my Zig Clean Color Markers and then cut it out with the coordinating dies.

Just Because by Jen Timko | Little Lilies Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Stitched Circle Scallop Frames by MFT StampsI added just a little touch of light gray and green on the ends of the flowers to give a little dimension to the white flowers.  Onto a base of Bristol Smooth paper, I swirled on a little bit of Distress Ink and sprinkled it with water.  I am a big fan of a “just because” card since I can use them for so many things so I chose it for my sentiment.  The flower went perfectly with this little scalloped circle frame so I added that and then the flower on top.  I dug through and found a few sequins to finish the card.

April Showers by Jen Timko | April Showers Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Wood Textures Card Stock by Stampin' UpThe second set for today is called April Showers.  I have to tell you, I am SERIOUSLY hoping this sentiment is true!!  I am done with winter weather and really ready for some flowers and butterflies!  I used a yellow embossing powder on vellum for the sentiment and then cut it out with a banner die.  I pulled out my trusty sewing machine (see, mom, I still know how to use it!!) and stitched the banner onto some Wood Textures paper.April Showers by Jen Timko | April Showers Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Wood Textures Card Stock by Stampin' UpIt is a little hard to see in the big picture so I’m giving you a close up of the little beads that I attached to the centers of the flowers and onto the banner.  I used the Multi-Medium Matte Glue for those.  There are additional images that are super cute that go with the sentiment and I’m sure the DT has some great examples with those.

I hope that you have enjoyed all of my cards this week.  I very much enjoy hearing from you in the comments and your kind words always bring a smile.  Thanks for letting me be a part of your day!  Now for your chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Umbrella Pals

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Umbrella Pals published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Umbrella Pals

Welcome to day 3 of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  I hope you are having fun with the reveals so far.  Today, we have an absolutely darling set that is super clever and sure to bring a smile.  It is called Umbrella Pals.

Brighter Days by Jen Timko | Umbrella Pals Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsSo all the umbrellas in the stamp set are little critters and it is such fun to use!!  I thought these two bears worked great together!  I colored them with my Zig Clean Color markers and then created the background with the markers too.  To do that, I scribbled some of the ink on a clear blog and spritzed with a bit of water, the put the block on my paper.  I did this a few times to get the layered look on the background.

Brighter Days by Jen Timko | Umbrella Pals Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsI thought it would be fun to add a bit of sunshine under the umbrella with the yellow as a nod to the sentiment.  As an additional bit of brightness, I put the colored layer onto a yellow base so that the recipient gets that extra surprise of color when they open the card.  I thought a few clear drops would be appropriate for the gray section able the umbrellas.

I hope you enjoy today’s card and I know you will love the DT’s projects.  Now for your chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Wedding Frills and Floral Lace

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Wedding Frills and Floral Lace published on 29 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Wedding Frills and Floral Lace

Welcome back for day 2 of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today we have a wonderfully elegant set that is perfect for another fixture of spring…weddings.  It is called Wedding Frills and it is gorgeous.  As if that were not enough, we are showcasing a new stencil called Floral Lace as well.

Happily Ever After by Jen Timko | Wedding Frills Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Frames and Flags Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsWhen I saw these gorgeous images, I immediately wanted to make them look like lace on a wedding dress.  Something about embossing white on kraft colored card stock does that!  I cut the image layer with the Frames and Flags Dies and then stamped the big flower and sentiment with Versamark Ink (I did this in steps to avoid causing smudges with the Versamark).  Using Wow! Bright White Embossing Powder, I heat embossed.  Then I stamped a few of the little flowers and did the same.  Using the coordinating Wedding Frills dies, I cut those out and popped them up.  Finally I added some pearls to go with my wedding flowers.  I love the elegant feel of this card!

Hello by Jen Timko | Floral Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs, Essential Alphabet Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsFor my second card I wanted something with a more spring-like feel.  I cannot even tell you how awesome this stencil is to use!  I taped it onto some Bristol Smooth card stock and then sponged on Distress Inks  to highlight the flowers and leaves.  I sponged a little bit more of the paper and then cut out my sentiment letters with the new Essential Alphabet Dies.  I just used a bit of foam tape to pop them up and make them stand out more.  Think of all the color combinations you can try!  I can’t wait to make more of them.

I hope you enjoy these!  What a day 2!!  I know you have lots of hopping to do so off to visit the rest of the team for you.  But first….a chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Newton’s Graduation and Essential Alphabet Dies

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Newton’s Graduation and Essential Alphabet Dies published on 32 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Newton’s Graduation and Essential Alphabet Dies

Welcome to day 1 of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  We have another exciting week in store for you and we have spring on the mind!  Today, Newton starts us off with Newton’s Graduation (and, of course, the coordinating dies) along with a new stand alone die set called Essential Alphabet.

Take Over the World by Jen Timko | Newton's Graduation Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, WatercolorIt is time to start thinking about the end of the school year (where has it gone?!!) and I know there will be some important graduations coming for many of you.  This adorable Newton is great for those but also can multitask to cheer someone on for other big life events.  I have just the person in mind for this one…she just started a new job and I’m excited for the possibilities!

I stamped Newton onto Fabriano Watercolor Paper and then colored with Daniel Smith paints.  After coloring, I was inspired by the globe colors and went digging around into my papers to see what I could find.  Sure enough, this retired set from Stampin’ up was perfect to use!  Using the sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch #267 which seemed great for showing off our kitty friend.  And oh, this sentiment…isn’t it great?!

Our second reveal for the day is an alphabet die set that is a must have!  The style of the letters fits almost any card type you could need to make.  I will show it to you on a card tomorrow but I know some of the team will have great inspiration today.  Make sure to hop through and enjoy the projects! Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week.  A chance to win!!

Lovely Amazing You

Lovely Amazing You published on 1 Comment on Lovely Amazing You

Lovely Amazing You by Jen Timko | Cottage Garden Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp by Newton's Nook DesignsToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog.  While my blog was plugging along with pre-scheduled posts last week, I was in New York City with my family for spring break.  We had an amazing time and saw as much as we could (and had the tired feet to prove it)!!  Because of the week off, I was not able to participate in the Stamping for Autism Blog Hop so instead I created my card today with that in mind.

I was inspired for my card by this logo.  I love how the colors reflect the differences of all those who are on the autism spectrum.  Just like a rainbow, the colors are better together!  I thought it would be nice to create a wreath of sorts using similar colors and this wonderful flower from Cottage Garden.  After stamping and die cutting the flowers, I chose this sentiment from Happy Little Thoughts.  It sums up how special each individual is, after all.  And on a personal note, I have a number of friends with children on the spectrum.  These parents are the most extraordinary kind of parent.  They are gentle and kind, yet ferocious when defending their children against misunderstanding.  They are full of love and tolerance, yet willing to fight any battle to make sure their children get the most they can from this world.  I’m in awe of them and pray that with each post in this week’s hop, there is more kindness and understanding for those who face these challenges every day.

Please take the time to go over to Newton’s Nook Designs for the DT hop and also to see Veronica Zalis who is the creator of the 2018 Stamping for Autism hop (there are chances to win prizes at both too).

Thanks for stopping in today.  I’m back to stamping and will see you tomorrow for the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, have a great day!

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Birthday Essentials

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Birthday Essentials published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Birthday Essentials

Welcome back for the last day of the March Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  For our final reveal I have what you are sure to see as a “work horse” stamp set…a wonderful sentiment set called Birthday Essentials.

Celebrate by Jen Timko | Birthday Essentials Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Magic Stamp by Clear Snap, Distress Oxide Ink by Tim HoltzSo I have a confession to make.  My name is Jennifer and I’m a sentiment hoarder.  I love sentiment sets.  I “collect” sentiment sets.  Having just the right ones for inside and outside the card is simply a quest so I hold on to them even as I let images go now and then.  So when a set that is all about birthdays comes along, you can bet that I’m doing a happy dance.  Another truth (because, hey it is just among friends)…I never seem to have enough masculine cards.  Perhaps it is because Kitty Kate and I are outnumbered.  Perhaps it is my obsession with cute images and all flowers.  But somehow, when it comes time to reach for a card for man, I don’t have the right one.  So I committed to making one (and I’ll be making a few more just like it).  I felt like I need a cool background so I used this fun Magic Stamp by Clearsnap.  It allows you to make your own background and just stamp.  I was playing with it on my trip to Kansas and the incredible Jen Shults (yes, I did just name drop) suggested I press it into some concrete on the sidewalk.  And I got this texture.  Cool!!  I inked it up with Distress Oxide Ink and just stamped onto watercolor paper, then spritzed with a little water.

Celebrate by Jen Timko closeup | Birthday Essentials Stamp by Newton's Nook Designs, Magic Stamp by Clear SnapThis big bold sentiment (which fits perfectly onto the Frames and Flags Die banner) becomes the focus and I have a fabulous, non-girly, no bling birthday card.  Yay!!!  And while this is super clean, the great script sentiment makes this still feel special.  Birthday Essentials for the win!!

I hope you like this card idea and I’m just sure you will love everything the team made for today.  Now one more time for this release…  A chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Uplifting Wishes Stamp and Balloon Shaker Die

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Uplifting Wishes Stamp and Balloon Shaker Die published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Uplifting Wishes Stamp and Balloon Shaker Die

Welcome back for day 2 of the March Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  We are back with a pair that is sure to bring a smile.  Introducing the Uplifting Wishes Stamp Set and the coordinating Balloon Shaker Die.

Smile by Jen Timko | Uplifting Wishes Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Balloon Shaker Die by Newton's Nook Designs, 28 Lilac Lane SequinsIs there anyone that doesn’t love a shaker card?!  I think not!  I love the idea of a balloon shaker and today’s combination of products is fun for so many occasions.  I stamped this sentiment onto Shimmery White paper with Versafine Onyx Black ink and then cut it out using the outline balloon.  I cut another piece of the same white with the shaker border die.  I ran some of the double sided foam (NND) through with the shaker border die and the acetate (NND) through with the outline.  I ran some antistatic powder around the inside edge of the foam (to keep the sequins from sticking) and they put the whole thing together.  I think it takes longer to type up how to do it than to actually make this fun balloon!  Once my little shaker was together, all I had to do was put it on a fun background.  I used the Frames and Flags dies to layer these prints and tied on a little coordinating twine to finish the balloon before attaching it.

I hope you enjoy my card for today and I know you’ll enjoy the projects from the rest of the team.  Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week.  A chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Holding Happiness

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Holding Happiness published on 39 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Holding Happiness

Welcome to day 1 of the March Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  We have lots in store for you and the focus is birthdays!  Today we have an adorable set called Holding Happiness (with coordinating dies) along with two new stencils, Bubbly and Confetti.

Big Wishes by Jen Timko | Holding Happiness Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Chameleon Pens, Striped Frames Confetti Cut Die by Reverse ConfettiI cannot even say how much I’m in love with this first reveal set!  I’m so excited for all the possibilities with it.  This sweet gal and her balloons called out to be colored with fun, bright tones and I thought using my Chameleon Markers (and Color Tops) would be perfect.  This sentiment from the set is awesome to use with each of the images and I simply stamped it in the corner of this popped up panel.  I dug through my collection of sequins to find some that match my balloon colors to add just a little more detail.

I can’t wait to see what the whole team has done with this set…sure to be amazing!  And these stencils are another great addition.  I’ll show you more with those later this week.  Off to a great start for sure.  Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week.  A chance to win!!
