Amazing Friend

Amazing Friend by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp by Newton's Nook Designs, WatercolorToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I am so excited about this one!  I had a card like this in mind for a while using the Lovely Blooms stamp set and this exceeded even what I had envisioned (and that NEVER happens).  The best part, it came together so quickly.  This is super fun and really easy to reproduce!

I stamped using Versamark ink onto Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  Quick and sort of random with nothing too fussy.  Then I heat embossed using white embossing powder.  I love the half wreath feel so I added this great sentiment from the set using the same method.  Then all I did was color using Winsor and Newton paints. I got the image wet and dropped in color.  For some I let the colors combine but with others (purple specifically) it is best to let things dry first and then layer color on top.  With paints, you can do that and avoid muddiness.  I added these sweet little Clear Round Drops from Studio Katia to mimic the look of water.

I hope this will encourage you to try your hand at watercoloring too.  It doesn’t all have to be in the lines or perfect!  Hope you have a great day.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Cake Day by Jen Timko | Newton Loves Cake Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color Markers, Watercolor, Inky Paws #47A quick card for today’s Inky Paws #47 Challenge.  I loved the colors in this challenge so I just had to play along!  I thought this little Newton Loves Cake set was perfect for the challenge and I had not colored this particular image yet so win, win!

I stamped Newton on some Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper and colored with Zig Clean Color Markers to match the challenge colors.  Fun and simple to do!  Then, using the coordinating dies I cut out the image.  I added this awesome sentiment (because it really is ALL about the cake) plus some baker’s twine and sequins.  I always need birthday cards on hand and this one is quick to duplicate…always a plus!

I hope you will find a moment to join the challenge.  You have two weeks and this color palette is sure to inspire.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!

The week is flying by and today is the last day of release week for  Newton’s Nook Designs.  Your favorite kitty is back again today and this time Newton gets a scooter!

Wheelie Great by Jen Timko | Newton Scoots By Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sky Borders Dies (Newton's Nook Designs), Zig Clean Color Markers, Watercolor CardThis little kitty called out to be a girl to me so I gave her a hot pink scooter and some great coordinating accessories.  Don’t you love her scarf?  The sentiments that go with this image are just fantastic for many different occasions.  Love that!

I colored our little friend using Zig Clean Color Markers and created a background with Distress Ink.  I pulled some of the colors from the image and found coordinating paper from my stash that matched perfectly.  YAY!  The scallop border is created with the Sky Borders Dies and it is just the right layer for adding my sentiment.  The clouds in the set would have been fun on the background circle but somehow one ending up as the “exhaust” instead.  Oh so cute!  You can get you chance to win this free but make sure you work fast!

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Dreams of Italy

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Dreams of Italy published on 38 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Dreams of Italy

Did you enjoy day 1 of  the May release from Newton’s Nook Designs?  Well, I’m sure you will be just as thrilled with the reveal for Day 2!  This is my second post of the day so if you are looking for Freshly Made Sketches, just roll to the next post.

Ciao Bella by Jen Timko | Newton Dreams of Italy Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Distress Ink, Zig Clean Color MarkersI’m going to tell you right now that I have only just started playing with this new set called Newton Dreams of Italy.  Just look at the adorable images and so many ways to have fun!  But the very first thing that came to mind was use gondola image and create Newton’s very own little river.

I looked up some information on gondolas and found out that they are traditionally black.  I found some fun images that showed that the insides have different colors but saw quite a number of versions that were red.  I went with that and then made sure that Newton himself was all decked out in the appropriate gear.  Isn’t he just too cute?!  I created the river using the Land Border Dies on different angles.  Then I simply cut it out again using a rectangle.  I sponged on Distress Ink to create the water and then on a background panel, I added a little more color to help the water pop.  I looked up pictures of the actual Rialto bridge as an inspiration for the shading here (just a little light blue).  Finally, I added a little “Ciao bella” (hello beautiful) that you can just imagine coming from our dapper friend here.  Hard to see on the black base but I added some striped embossing too.  You are going to have such fun with the images in this set.  I just know the team has knocked this one out of the park too.  Of course you can get the set for free….don’t you love that?!

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Winston’s Tee Time

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Winston’s Tee Time published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Winston’s Tee Time

I hope you have had a wonderful start to your week!  I’m here to make sure a great week is assured with the May release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  There is lots to love with this one and it all starts with an adorable version of our favorite bear, Winston!

Just Fore You by Jen Timko | Winston's Tee Time Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic Coloring, newtonsnook, Golf Card, Shaker CardDo you have golfers in your life?  If so, you need this set called Winston’s Tee Time.  As soon as possible!  Our friend Winston is having some fun at the course and he comes with some awesome sentiments too.  I just love a great pun and this set has them for sure.

I thought a shaker card would be perfect with this set and I’m super happy with the result!  I created the frame with some stitched rectangle dies and added texture  with a wood grain embossing folder.  Then I created the golf green for the inside of the shaker with the Land Borders Die.  I stamped the images with Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copic Markers.  The little flag was attached inside the shaker area and then I put in some sequins that match Winston’s outfit.  My oldest son is convinced that Winston is going to miss his shot but I am pretty sure he is just reading a complicated green.  And clearly there are some hazards to deal with, haha!  While this set is great for Father’s Day, it is also just perfect for any golf fan!  And I just bet you know the best part….you can get the set for free!

Be Colorful

Be Colorful published on 2 Comments on Be Colorful

Be Colorful by Jen Timko | Beautiful Plumage Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic Coloring, Distress Ink, Stitched Shapes Dies by Stampin' UpI’m up today over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog today and I want to share all the details with you here.  My project focuses on the Beautiful Plumage stamp and coordinating dies.

When I first showed you this set in release week, I focused on one of the pretty peacock images.  I thought for today, I could show you a way to use the little feathers and also show off this fabulous sentiment from the set.  I stamped the feathers in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and then colored with Copic Markers.  I just played with colors that I thought you’d find on actual peacock feathers and these were fun to blend together.  The dies make short work of cutting out the detailed images!  I took some Thick Whisper White card stock and applied some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers (of course!) and then cut out a stitched oval.  I stamped on this sentiment which I think is really awesome for so many people.  I LOVE people who have lots of color and character, don’t you?  One of my boys saw this and claimed it as a card for his birthday.  Maybe that is a good sign for a teenager.  Because to me, being colorful is also embracing being unique.

Because Simon Says Stamps Wednesday Challenge is showcasing Newton’s Nook Designs with an Anything Goes challenge, I’ll be linking this in there as well.  Thanks so much for stopping in to visit.  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Wishing you a colorful day!

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Newton’s Birdbath

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Newton’s Birdbath published on 33 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Newton’s Birdbath

So today is the last day of the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  So far, there hasn’t been a Newton…were you getting worried??!!  No fear, today is the day for all of you who love this fellow!

Newton's Birdbath by Jen Timko | Newton's Birdbath Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringYou know the hardest part about Newton sets??  Ok, besides choosing a favorite.  I always debate what kind of kitty he gets to be.  For this card, I chose to make him look a bit more like the real Newton (you can see his pictures over on the company site).

I started by stamping the images and coloring them with Copic markers (colors listed below).  Once I was done and had the images cut out with the coordinating dies, I thought it best to create a cute little scene.  The Land Border Dies with the grass border was exactly what I needed!  All you have to do is make one cut and you have two grassy edges.  And this sentiment….yes, I have already given you my disclaimer on love them….it is another one that is wonderful to have for so many occasions.  Ready to this guy for free??  Here you go:

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Simply Relative

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Simply Relative published on 31 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Simply Relative

Wow, it is already day 3 of the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today is the day for all of you “sentiment-a-holics”!!  You know who you are!

Wonderful Teacher by Jen Timko | Simply Relative Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Lovely Blooms Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringI mentioned yesterday how much I love flower sets but good sentiment sets are another love of mine.  And this is an amazing sentiment set!!  Just look at all the choices to personalize cards for the people you love.  So many of these are options I have not seen in a stamp before and I’m so happy to have them.

I also told you yesterday that the Lovely Blooms set was perfect for coloring and I used it again here to create a frame with flowers.  I chose some pretty pinks and purples and stamped a whole bunch of little flowers.  Before you know it, I had a virtual garden to choose from.  The little dies eliminate any need for fussy cutting and make it easy to create fun groupings.  I chose to make this for a teacher that certainly deserves recognition!  To be truthful, just having this word choice makes the set a must have!  I used the Sky Borders Dies to create a scallop and picked a pretty raspberry card stock as a base.  This is a card that you could easily duplicate for all the teachers who need a little pick-me-up this time of year!  So now is the time that we all love….

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms

Welcome back for another day of release week for the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Day 2 has a beautiful flower set called Lovely Blooms.

Blooms for Mom by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Mason Jar, #newtonsnookI hardly knew where to start with this set.  If you follow me, you know I love myself a flower.  And this set is full of pretty images to mix and match.  I finally settled on creating a watercolor styled card but kept it simple.  I sponged Distress Ink onto watercolor paper creating some ombré effects and then stamped over the sponging with the images.  The coordinating Lovely Blooms Dies made short work of cutting things out so that I could create this pretty little arrangement.  The script sentiments are really great so I chose to create this one for mom.  Um….sorry mom, should have given a spoiler alert.  I added a few sequins for a finishing touch and I just love the effect you get on this with no actual coloring required.

Of course, if you love to color, this set is totally for you too!  I’ll show you what I mean tomorrow!  Until then, you have a chance to win this set with just some simple commenting.

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage

Happy Monday to you!  Today is the start of release week for the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This release is so perfect for spring and you are going to love it!

Beautiful Peacock by Jen Timko | Beautiful Plumage Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic Coloring on VellumThis new set is a really lovely start to the April offerings, don’t you think?  The swirl images are always so pretty and the peacocks are fabulous!  The sentiments that go with this set are also ones you are sure to love.

I decided to emboss the image with gold onto vellum and I love the effect.  Using Copic markers, I colored on the back of the stamped image to create the color variances in his feathers.  This technique is very forgiving and fun to do.  Here is a closeup so you can see him a little better.Beautiful Plumage closeup by Jen Timko | Newton's Nook DesignsI added another vellum panel over the card base.  Using the coordinating die cuts for the set, the peacock is super easy to cut out.  To help him stand out more, he is up on a stitched circle and I added some gold thread behind him.  I know you will love all that the design team has to show you and here is your chance to get the set for free!
