A Fond Farewell

A Fond Farewell published on 2 Comments on A Fond Farewell

So today is a day that I have really mixed feelings about.  A year and half ago, I was given the amazing opportunity to become a design team member for Newton’s Nook Designs.  Jen and Jeff Jackson took a chance on me and I am forever grateful!  Being on this team has allowed me to stretch creatively with the support of an incredible group of designers.  What a privilege!  But today, it is time to say goodbye as a team member.  Making the decision to leave was a tough one but it is the right one for me right now.  I’m going to breathe, create for me and see what stamping adventure comes next.

But first, I want to let you know what I have learned being on this team.  I always knew that small business owners were important to our country.  Now I know for sure that small business owners are the heart of it.  Especially in our creative world, I’m grateful for entrepreneurs like Jen and Jeff.  They run Newton’s Nook Designs with love and caring.  You see this in their art and humor.  And as a design team member, you get to see behind the curtain, so to speak.  What did I find??  More love and caring.  The design team becomes family. The communication and organization is so impressive.  I can hardly find enough compliments for how I feel about the entire experience working with Newton’s Nook.

When I needed to ponder a “farewell” card, I was a bit overwhelmed.  I finally decided to create a card with my very first NND stamp.  You have seen me return to it often and it remains an all time favorite.  In the end, I created something clean, because I guess that is really who I am creatively.  Lovely Amazing You by Jen Timko | Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook DesignsI stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and then heat embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.  Then I pulled out my Daniel Smith paints and just painted for fun.  I tried to create some color variations on the flowers and just create a pretty summer wreath.  I added this sentiment from the stamp set (all of them in the set are fantastic).  But I thought that is was perfect for all of you who have supported my work while on the DT.  For all the kind and encouraging comments, I cannot tell you how much they mean.  Thank you, all of you, for your sweet words!

So over at the Newton’s Nook Blog today, they have posted some cards that are my faves from the last year and a half.  I hope you’ll go over to visit and see them.  And as with all change, you will find out some fun news over the next few days about who will be joining the team to inspire you.  You are sure to be thrilled!  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I’m grateful you shared some time with me.  See you soon!

Peonies in Silver

Peonies in Silver published on 18 Comments on Peonies in Silver

This week Newton’s Nook Designs and Xyron are partnering for an awesome inspiration week! Each day there is fresh inspiration using Newton’s Nook Designs products with Xyron adhesives on the NND blog and on the Xyron facebook page!  I am thrilled to be here on the lead off day to share with you.

Hello by Jen Timko | Peony Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Cameo Frame Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs, 3" Disposable Sticker Maker by XyronToday’s card all started with the Cameo Frames Die Set.  This intricate die is gorgeous but I will admit that dies like this (and word dies) sometime intimidate me because of how to adhere them to a card.  So I was a stamper on a mission and took advantage of this collaboration to see what solution I could find.  And you know what??  I found one!  The Xyron sticker makers are a new to me product and I’m officially in love.

Hello by Jen Timko | Peony Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Cameo Frame Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs, 3" Disposable Sticker Maker by XyronI started by running some glitter paper through the sticker maker.  That is certainly simple enough!  I removed the top clear layer and then put my die down on the paper.  Next up, the Big Shot.  I shimmed this with some plain typing paper to force the cut a little more and then ran it back and forth a few times to make sure the cut was really complete.  When you remove the die, you are left with a die cut that has a sticky backing.  Talk about making things easier!  Once I knew it was that simple, I got to designing the rest of the card.  This frame is so pretty all alone that I didn’t want to cover it or take away from it.  So I pulled out some vellum and did some Versamark stamping followed by silver embossing powder.

Hello by Jen Timko | Peony Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Cameo Frame Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs, 3" Disposable Sticker Maker by XyronI used the Peony Blooms stamp set (one of my all time faves) on the vellum.  I added the sentiment from the same set off center.  The backing was pulled off the frame and it adhered perfectly.  I glued down the flowers and then added a clear button and some silver thread.  To add to the silver (but trying not to take away from the gorgeous frame and images), I added a silver striped vellum to a white base.  And that’s it.

It all started with the frame and the ability to glue it down simply.  Xyron has so many wonderful products and you are sure to find tons of inspiration from the combined DT’s this week.  And guess what…a chance to win!

Would you like to win a Prize pack including a Mega Runner from Xyron and a $25 store credit to Newton’s Nook Designs?

Welcome to the last of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Our favorite feline is back to cap off the week and you are sure to love this adorable set.

All You Knead Is Love by Jen Timko | Newton's Kitchen Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color MarkersIf you are a cat person, you probably had a “kneader” in your house,  I certainly do.  Little Kate is a chirpy purr kneader.  So I just had to use this sentiment.  I decided to color this one up to look like the real Newton.  I do love an orange kitty and the pictures of Newton are always so sweet.  I colored him using Zig Clean Color Markers and added the little white hat (because it is just so cute!!).  I pulled out a pack of designer paper and found this orange print that seemed perfect to go behind our kitty friend.

All the images in this new set are great…especially if you love to cook as well!   So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments for your chance to win.

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Coffee and Wine plus Wine a Little (and some FMS)

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Coffee and Wine plus Wine a Little (and some FMS) published on 32 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Coffee and Wine plus Wine a Little (and some FMS)

Welcome to day 3 of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Busy, busy bees we are today because the team has two sets to feature!!  And there is wine.  Because…Wednesday!  I have some Freshly Made Sketches too…also because Wednesday.

Coffee and Wine by Jen Timko | Coffee and Wine Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Serene Stripes Stencil by Newton's Nook DesignsAs with yesterday, the stencil was the start of my design.  Today, I chose the Serene Stripes Stencil and sponged on some Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink over it.  I just made it fade a bit as it went down the card.  I love stencils!!!  So much wow!  I stamped the sentiment from the Coffee and Wine over the stenciling and then stamped some of the images (all of this was onto Bristol Vellum card stock).  I colored the cup and bottle with some more Distress Ink and then popped them up on foam dots (Dimensionals).  I found some sequins that matched (YAY!) so I added those and then put the whole layer on a black base.

Sip Happens by Jen Timko | Wine a Little Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, FMS 342For my second card, I used the fun sketch designed by Amy O’Neill for Freshly Made Sketches to show off the Wine a Little stamp set and dies.  This sentiment (and the others in the set) are such fun and perfect for any wino oenophile.  Like me.  I created pretty glasses that I’d love to have and filled them with yummy red wine.  But feel free to color your own fave!

Because you made it to Wednesday, you deserve a glass of wine.  And a chance to win!  So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments.  They make me and the other designers smile really big and they really mean a ton!

Would you like to win either the “Coffee and Wine” or the “Wine a Little” Stamp Set?

Each set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Loveable Llamas

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Loveable Llamas published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Loveable Llamas

Welcome to day 2 of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today’s set reveal is sure to make you smile…I mean really, who doesn’t like llamas?? So naturally, you will fall for Loveable Llamas!

Have a LLama Fun by Jen Timko | Loveable Llamas Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sunscape Stencil by Newton's Nook DesignsThis gorgeous stencil was my starting place of the card.  The Sunscape Stencil give you the choice of the sun, some landscape or both!  It is awesome!  I chose to use just the sun for this and sponged on some Distress Ink in yellows and oranges.  Then I got to coloring this super fun little llama.  I love all the options for him and oh, those glasses.  Well, they were a must to go along with the sunny background.  Plus, the glasses make the card super “cool” for just about anyone’s birthday!  I colored the llama and his accessories using Distress Inks too and then just layered them on.  This was just a fun card to make!

I love when a stamp set makes it simply fun to sit down and create!  So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments for your chance to win.

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Playful Pandas

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Playful Pandas published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Playful Pandas

Welcome to day 1 of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This is just the release you needed to see for your summer crafting fun!  You are going to love it.  Today we start off with an adorable set called Playful Pandas and two (yes, TWO) stencils.

Hey There by Jen Timko | Playful Pandas Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringI cannot even get enough of these little pandas.  They are so stinkin’ cute I can hardly stand it!  And I’m not alone.  I was in the process of adhering the card together when my youngest came in and claimed it as “his” birthday card for his older brother.  He sure knows the way to this mom’s heart, lol!

I stamped the panda and cut him out (what is not to love about that?!) and then I stamped a bunch of the bamboo images and colored them up really quickly with Copics.  I wasn’t sure how many I wanted so I cut them all and then created a bit of a random arrangement.  I chose the Hey There sentiment for a more universal card (and birthday, apparently) but I really think this would be funny with the “sorry for what I said when I was hungry”.  The black and white striped paper seemed like a natural for the card and I added just a bit of lime paper as a layer for more color.   The stencils introduced today are really fab too and I have projects showing you more with those later in the week.  So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments for your chance to win.

Thinking of You for Newton’s Nook Designs

Thinking of You for Newton’s Nook Designs published on No Comments on Thinking of You for Newton’s Nook Designs

Thinking of You by Jen Timko | Wedding Frills Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Peony Blooms Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Smooch Accent Ink by ClearsnapToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog.  As I sat down to create, I was drawn to subtle and soft colors and decided that the pretty Wedding Frills stamp set would be perfect for them.

Using a piece of Bristol Smooth paper I inked up the background with Distress Inks and then splattered a bit with water.  I stamped the little flower (in truth, I stamped three of them) and then colored with the Distress Ink and used the coordinating Wedding Frills Dies to cut out the images.  I love the fonts in the Peony Blooms stamp set and thought the muted colors could be perfect for a “thinking of you” kind of card….could be sympathy, could be just because.  I had planned to put three flowers down the edge but when I was playing with the final layout, I found I liked it with just one.  To add a little more detail to the card, I splattered on some Smooch Accent Ink in Moonlight.  So pretty!!

Thinking of You by Jen Timko | Wedding Frills Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Peony Blooms Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Smooch Accent Ink by ClearsnapI hope you are inspired to get inky today!!  I love when I can create just for fun and this card really was just that. Make sure to stop by the Newton’s Nook Designs blog for daily inspiration.  Thanks so much for stopping in and I’ll see you soon!

Stamps: Wedding Frills (Newton’s Nook Designs), Peony Blooms (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black, Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Antique Linen, Tattered Rose, Weathered Wood, Bundled Sage), Smooch Accent Ink in Moonlight (Clearsnap); Paper:  Strathmore Bristol Smooth; Accessories:  Big Shot, Wedding Frills Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), Misti

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Loves Boxes and Newton’s Donut

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Loves Boxes and Newton’s Donut published on 29 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Loves Boxes and Newton’s Donut

Welcome to the last day of the May Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  And for the last day we have not one but TWO adorable Newton sets for you.  YAY!!!  Yep, two of the greatest things in the world….boxes and donuts.

You Can Do It by Jen Timko | Newtons Loves Boxes Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Pawprints Stencil by Newton's Nook DesignsIf you have ever known a cat, you already know all about the phrase “if it fits, it sits”.  Well, the new Newton Loves Boxes is all about fitting and sitting!!  It is hilarious.  When Jennifer Jackson first showed the team the images, we all went just a little bit crazy!  Pretty sure that will be the reaction from all of you today too.  I created a background with the Pawprints Stencil and Distress Inks and then cut it out with the Frames and Flags Die.  I colored up out furry friend and his box and then cut him out with the coordinating die set for the stamp.  Don’t you think this sentiment is perfect for the image.  Seriously, this cracks me up.

Sprinkles by Jen Timko | Newton's Donut Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tutti-frutti DSP by Stampin' Up, Copic ColoringFor my second card, I get to introduce Newton’s Donut.  Well, I actually colored MY donut.  That I want.  Right now.  But until I can figure out how to get it from him, it is Newtons’ donut.  *smile*  And because I am pretty sure sprinkles should always include pink and lime green, that is what I chose for the colors.

Sprinkles Closeup by Jen Timko | Newton's Donut Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tutti-frutti DSP by Stampin' Up, Copic ColoringI made the donut into a chocolate version with vanilla frosting (a favorite of mine) and then tucked in this adorable  kitty colored with gray.  And there is something about the images with kitty “beans” (paw pads) that make me smile!  I used a base of lime patterned paper and some great (retired) pink washi tape to pull the colors from the sprinkles and then added on some sequins in the same colors.  On a technical note, I just have to tell you how well engineered this donut die is.  Look at the placement of the cut-outs…really fantastic and easy to use!  I love the time that is put into each of these sets.  It always makes me so proud when I can support Newton’s Nook Designs and their hard work!

This daily double is a real win and I know you will all be as in love with the sets as I am.  And now for a chance for free stamps!

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Papa Bear plus Freshly Made Sketches

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Papa Bear plus Freshly Made Sketches published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Papa Bear plus Freshly Made Sketches

Welcome to day 3 of the May Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Being Wednesday, it is also Freshly Made Sketches day so I have used that inspiration to show you the new Papa Bear stamp set.

Happy Father's Day by Jen Timko | Papa Bear Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringI just think this Winston set could not be more perfect for Father’s Day.  I love that you can add additional little bears as needed too.  I thought it would be fun to color on kraft paper using my Copic markers for this one.  I love how it turned out!  You see, I have a little blonde one and a bigger brown headed one so I colored the “kids” to match that idea.  The boys thought it was a fun idea and since this will be from them, yay!  I kept all the coloring tone on tone except for the heart and then added some red framing panels to pull that color out a bit.  the corrugated kraft adds a nice bit of texture along with the twine.  I tried hard to keep this dad-like with no frills or extra “stuff”.Our sketch today is perfect for showing off image sets (like this one) and I can’t wait to see what you all do with it this week.  Linda Callahan, she of great humor and even greater talent, is our sketch hostess….it is going to be a fun week!

Now you know the deal by now!  Time for a chance to win!

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Peony Blooms

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Peony Blooms published on 31 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Peony Blooms

Welcome to day 2 of the May Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today we get to share another floral set and I’m thrilled to introduce Peony Blooms.  And do I ever love peonies!!

Hello by Jen Timko | Peony Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Framework Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color MarkersI was totally inspired by my own peonies that are blooming right now.  These flowers are so special that I decided to keep the rest of the card pretty simple.  I stamped the image onto Bristol Smooth paper and colored using Zig Clean Color Markers.  A few shades of each color was all I needed.

Hello by Jen Timko | Peony Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Framework Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color MarkersAfter coloring the flowers, I cut them out with the coordinating die.  Then I cut a frame from the Framework Dies (shown yesterday).  This scalloped frame is really wonderful, don’t you think?  I added a sentiment from the stamp set (LOVE this style of script) and then popped the frame and the flowers up on foam tape.  I added a few colored pearls that I thought were pretty with the image.  Mostly, I didn’t want to do anything to take away from the beautiful art of these flowers!!

Peonies May '18 | Jen TimkoAnd speaking of flowers, here are my gorgeous peonies from over the weekend.  Yep, the timing on this stamp set could not be better.  Now let’s go see what the rest of the team created!  Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week.  A chance to win!!
