Freshly Made Sketches #369

Freshly Made Sketches #369 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #369

Happy New Year to you all!!  I hope you have had a nice holiday season and are looking forward to what 2019 brings.  I’ll admit that I’m pretty good with seeing 2018 leave.  Not a great year for our family.  But onward we go!  I’m happy to share the first Freshly Made Sketches challenge of the year and we have some pretty exciting news too.  More on that in a bit.

FMS369 by Jen Timko | Cup of Thanks Stamp Set and Dies by Studio Katia, Zig Clean Color Real Brush MarkersLet’s start with our new sketch.  I fell in love with this classic look as soon as I saw it and thought it would be the perfect excuse to use the Cup of Thanks stamp that was sitting unused and calling to be colored.  And I pulled out my Zig Clean Color markers too.  I haven’t used them in a while and I remember why I loved them from the first time I used them.  Such vibrant colors and so easy to blend.  I find that the blending is based on your paper and the Bristol paper really works wonderfully with them.  I chose some bright, happy colors and just spent a few minutes coloring all the pretty details. After I finished the coloring I looked to the details of the sketch and how to finish the card.  First, I found this lime green print in my stash of retired SU paper and cut it using the Double Stitched Rectangles Dies (Gina Marie Designs).  I added a strip of Doll Pink card stock that I thought was a nice match to the coloring.  Then I cut the sentiment from the coordinating Cup of Thanks Dies and cut out the colored image too.

Now for some exciting news!  Our DT Call over at Freshly Made Sketches was more successful than we could have imagined!!  So many talented designers entered and we had a really hard time narrowing down.  In fact, we chose three because we just could not narrow further!  So please hop over to the FMS challenge blog and give a warm welcome to Lee Ann Barrett, Judy Rozema and Jacquie Southas!  Well, I’m off to my check ride at United today.  We get these every 9 months and they are very important to maintaining safety and standardization.  I’ll be happy to get this under my belt (no matter how many I do, they always bring a bit of stress).  Back soon with more once I’m back from training.  See you then!!  Thanks for stopping by today.

Feature Friday with Concord and 9th – Furry Friends

Merry Reindeer by Jen Timko | Furry Friends Stamp Set and Dies by Concord and 9th, O Christmas Tree Stamp Set by Concord and 9thToday I have my last Feature Friday with Concord and 9th and we are showing off the new Furry Friends stamp set.  So many different elements with so many options!!  So of course I had to make two cards.

First up, I chose the reindeer and decided to turn him into a little Rudolph for Christmas.  My first Christmas card of the year, I think.  I stamped the wreath and added some clear rhinestones for sparkle.  Then I stamped the line image for the deer and added the inner solid images.

Merry Reindeer by Jen Timko | Furry Friends Stamp Set and Dies by Concord and 9th, O Christmas Tree Stamp Set by Concord and 9thThese are remarkable easy to line up, especially if you have a MISTI.  I did the same for the antlers and again, easy to line up.  I colored a rhinestone with a red Copic Marker to add to the nose…so fun!!  Finally a sentiment from one of my favorites, O Christmas Tree.  I put the image panel over some great red patterned paper to help pull the red from the nose and to give it a festive feel.  These would be easy to make in a stack (I need to get on that)!

Party Animal by Jen Timko | Furry Friends Stamp Set and Dies by Concord and 9th, Shaker Card, Marbled Smooch Technique, Smooch Accent InkFor my second card, I thought the unicorn option would be fun.  I used some leftover panels that I had created using the Marbled Smooch technique and as part of my Smooch Accent Ink review for Splitcoaststampers.  The panel on the back side of the shaker and the paper pieced mane on the unicorn were cut from a pattern I created.   I thought the blues and purples were a natural for a unicorn.  I stamped the horn, colored with some Gold Lamé Smooch and then stamped again one the Smooch was dry to cover if I went a little out of the lines.  Again, the MISTI is perfect to make this fast and simple.  The frame is from the coordinating die set in the bundle…love those stitched details, don’t you?  I added a variety of sequins to match and put the shaker and sentiment on a base of Fog Gray.

It has been such a privilege to work with Concord and 9th this month.  I’m grateful for the chance to help show off these amazing products and I have become even more of a fan of C9 (if that is possible).  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Welcome to the last of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Our favorite feline is back to cap off the week and you are sure to love this adorable set.

All You Knead Is Love by Jen Timko | Newton's Kitchen Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color MarkersIf you are a cat person, you probably had a “kneader” in your house,  I certainly do.  Little Kate is a chirpy purr kneader.  So I just had to use this sentiment.  I decided to color this one up to look like the real Newton.  I do love an orange kitty and the pictures of Newton are always so sweet.  I colored him using Zig Clean Color Markers and added the little white hat (because it is just so cute!!).  I pulled out a pack of designer paper and found this orange print that seemed perfect to go behind our kitty friend.

All the images in this new set are great…especially if you love to cook as well!   So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments for your chance to win.

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Playful Pandas

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Playful Pandas published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Playful Pandas

Welcome to day 1 of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This is just the release you needed to see for your summer crafting fun!  You are going to love it.  Today we start off with an adorable set called Playful Pandas and two (yes, TWO) stencils.

Hey There by Jen Timko | Playful Pandas Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringI cannot even get enough of these little pandas.  They are so stinkin’ cute I can hardly stand it!  And I’m not alone.  I was in the process of adhering the card together when my youngest came in and claimed it as “his” birthday card for his older brother.  He sure knows the way to this mom’s heart, lol!

I stamped the panda and cut him out (what is not to love about that?!) and then I stamped a bunch of the bamboo images and colored them up really quickly with Copics.  I wasn’t sure how many I wanted so I cut them all and then created a bit of a random arrangement.  I chose the Hey There sentiment for a more universal card (and birthday, apparently) but I really think this would be funny with the “sorry for what I said when I was hungry”.  The black and white striped paper seemed like a natural for the card and I added just a bit of lime paper as a layer for more color.   The stencils introduced today are really fab too and I have projects showing you more with those later in the week.  So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments for your chance to win.

Fancy Friday – Occasions Catty CASE

Fancy Friday – Occasions Catty CASE published on 3 Comments on Fancy Friday – Occasions Catty CASE

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from my friend Holly Stene, welcome to the next stop.  For April, we have decided to CASE the Occasions Catalog.  Fun, right?

Beauty Blooms by Jen Timko | Friendship's Sweetest Thoughts Stamp by Stampin' Up, Copic Coloring, Tutti-Frutti DSP by Stampin' UpI think CASEing is always a wonderful compliment to the original designer, don’t you?!  But I also think there are some nice basic “rules” that go along with it.  First, whenever possible I feel it is really important to give credit to the original designer if you are posting your card or using it for a class.  I know how happy it makes me to know that I have inspired someone!  I also believe in honoring the work that was done by the original artist.  Even clean and “simple” cards can take a long time to design because finding balance is challenging.  What is simple to copy might have taken hours to get right.  Second, when I am CASEing, I look to change at least three things.  That way the card is true to the inspiration but still has original elements.

For today’s card, I pulled out Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts and stamped onto Thick Whisper White with Momento Tuxedo Black ink.  I really love this adorable set and have not given it nearly enough love.  I colored the image using Copic Markers but you could use Stampin’ Blends too.  I thought this fun dotted paper from the Tutti-frutti DSP pack was perfect as a base and then added some retired Pop of Pink DSP behind the image.  The sentiment comes from the stamp set and I attached the banner with a retired clip.

Stampin’ Up Occasions Catalog p. 41

Here is my inspiration card from the catalog.  What are my three changes?  Different image and coloring medium, change of designer papers, change of accessory on the banner.  So while my card is clearly a CASE, it has a fresh and original feel to it.  I wish I knew which of the Concept Artists at Stampin’ Up actually designed this card but it is just fabulous!!

I am thrilled to be joining my Fancy Friends this month.  It has been a while and I missed hopping with them.  Next up is the incredible Jennifer Picard.  I know you will love what she is sharing today!!  Thank you for stopping in.  Hope to see you again soon!

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Sending Hugs

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Sending Hugs published on 34 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Sending Hugs

Welcome back for day 2 of the January  Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  You are going to fall head over heels with today’s set called Sending Hugs.  All of the options are perfect for pretty much anyone you could want to create a card for and wait until you see how the dies work.

Sending Love by Jen Timko | Sending Hugs Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tumbling Hearts Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs, Shimmery White Embossing Paste by Stampin' Up, Chameleon Pens and Color TopsI chose this cute owl and decided to color him in bright, happy and decidedly “not real owl” colors.  I used my Chameleon Pens and Color Tops to create this fun shading.  After much debate, I thought this envelope worked well for my sentiment choice.  And now, you really need to take note…just look at how the owl is holding the letter.  Yep, the dies do that!  They cut the “hands” (feathers, paws) out so your little animal can hold the treat!  Oh…brilliant!!!  Just admit it, you want me to go stamp and cut more out right now, don’t you??  Thank goodness the team has done that and can show you more options!!  As a way to accent my owl, I used the Tumbling Hearts stencil and some new Shimmery White Embossing Paste.  The sparkle is awesome!

Sending Love Closeup by Jen Timko | Sending Hugs Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Shimmery White Embossing Paste by Stampin' Up, Tumbling Hearts Stencil by Newton's Nook DesignsI tried to capture some of the glittery look here but there is so much more wow in person.  To match, I added a little strip of shimmer washi tape down the side too.  I hope you enjoy this card and now time to get to everyone’s favorite part of release week.  A chance to win!!

Simply Lovely

Simply Lovely published on 2 Comments on Simply Lovely

For my Mother by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Simply Relative Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, BrushoToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog.  With all the cold we have been having, something about flowers is calling my name.  So Lovely Blooms was a fun choice that I hadn’t used in a while.

I recently got some Brusho Crystal Colours and this was a great time to give them a go.  I played with all the colors in my 5 color pack (available from Stampin’ Up).  On Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper, I stamped the jar with Versafine Onyx Black Ink.  I filled the jar with water using my paint brush and then sprinkled on the Prussian Blue Brusho.  It is super cool to watch the color spread and move.  I did the same with the flower and the leaves.  The flower uses Gamboge, Brilliant Red and Yellow and the leaves use Moss Green and Yellow.  Just put on the water and sprinkle…it is that easy.  I had my 11 yo help on the leaves because he thought it was so interesting.  Once everything was dry, I cut the flowers and the leaves with the coordinating dies.  For the background wash, I sprinkled a little bit of powder into a palette and added water to create the paler version of the colors.  I love that you can use this in multiple ways too.  I pulled a sentiment from Simply Relative…such a must have set!  You can’t see it from this picture but I actually attached the watercolor panel to a pale yellow card base for a sweet surprise when you open the card.

I hope you enjoy this floral burst of color today!  Make sure to stop by the Newton’s Nook Designs blog for daily inspiration.  Thanks so much for stopping in and I’ll see you soon!

Stamp: Lovely Blooms (Newton’s Nook Designs), Simply Relative (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black; Paper:  Arches Cold Press Watercolor; Accessories:  Big Shot, Lovely Blooms Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), Misti, Silver Paint Brush, Brusho Crystal Colour (SU 5-pack)

Freshly Made Sketches #317

Freshly Made Sketches #317 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #317

FMS317 by Jen Timko | Lots of Lavender Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Friendship's Sweetest Thoughts Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Wood Textures DSP by Stampin' UpYes, I finally did it.  I took a break from making Christmas cards.  Yes, I still have some to finish and all of them to address but I needed a brief reprieve.  So I used this week’s Freshly Made Sketches sketch designed by the amazing Jen Mitchell to show off some new things.

Alright, alright, the sketch is actually a square.  And I really love square cards!  But I wanted to use this lavender image so badly and it just fit better on a rectangle.  The flower is from the new Sale-a-bration set called Lots of Lavender and it will be available on January 3rd for free with a $50 US purchase.  I actually heard it calling to me the second I saw it.  I used some soft Tim Holtz Distress Inks on Bristol Smooth paper to color it and the background.  Such a pretty one to work with and it hardly takes any time to color.  I wanted to use this sentiment from the new Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts Stamp Set (Occasions 2018, available on Jan 3rd too) but didn’t want to lose any of the image.  Vellum to the rescue.  I added a small piece of Elegant Eggplant behind the image panel to try to keep with the sketch.  The whole panel is popped up on foam (I find this helps keep the panel smooth after watercoloring) and then put on a base from the Wood Textures DSP.  These woodgrains are so pretty and can be used in so many ways.

I hope you like this pretty little look at spring!  Now off I go, back to the Christmas card production line!  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I’m back tomorrow with a fun card for Newton’s Nook.  Until then, have a great day!
