Autumn in Gray

Autumn in Gray published on 2 Comments on Autumn in Gray

Autumn in Gray by Jen Timko | Shades of Autumn Stamp by Newton's Nook Designs, Falling Leaves Stencil by Newton's Nook DesignsToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog.  I’m fully into all things fall at this point and, apparently, obsessed with leaves.  Shades of Autumn was a natural for me to grab for today’s project.

I wanted to go with a monochromatic look but with something a little less expected.  So I pulled out my Fog Gray paper from Simon Says Stamp and used the Falling Leaves Stencil with the new Embossing Paste from Stampin’ Up.  I love the look of the leaves on the soft gray!  The leaf from the stamp set was stamped in Smoky Slate (SU) and the veining of the leaf image shows up so beautifully!!  I added a sentiment from the set.  A great go-to sentiment!!  Many time when I use grays, I’m drawn to use the Sparkling Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh and they work perfectly here.

I hope you like my card for today.  With all that is happening in the world, make sure you take time to give thanks for the many people who mean so much to you.  Glad you stopped in to see me.  Hope to see you again soon!

Stamp: Shades of Autumn (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Smoky Slate, Verafine Onyx Black; Paper:  Thick Whisper White (SU), Fog Gray (SSS); Accessories:  Big Shot, Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS), Misti, Sparklin Clear Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh), Dimensionals

Fancy Friday September – Holiday in 3D

Fancy Friday September – Holiday in 3D published on 2 Comments on Fancy Friday September – Holiday in 3D

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from the incredible Allison Okamitsu, welcome to the next stop.  For September, we have created 3D Holiday Projects.  And oh, what inspiration awaits you!

Fancy Friday 3D by Jen Timko | Flourish Thinlits by Stampin' Up, Pillow Box by Paper Pumpkin, Merry Café Stamp Set and Coffee Cups Framelits by Stampin' UpI have to admit that I don’t make a lot of “alternate” projects with my monthly Paper Pumpkin subscription because I usually love them exactly as they are!  And I did love the one we got for September for sure.  But I saw an opportunity to show you something else with more of a Christmas flair if you decided to use all those leaves on other projects.  This pillow box has the most lovely swirl detail that really lends itself to any occasion.  Using my Flourish Thinlits, I cut flowers, leaves and berries from watercolor paper.  Then, with an aqua painter, I quickly added Real Red to the flowers, Garden Green to the leaves and left the berries white.  Super fast but the watercolor look is a little softer than having used the dies on card stock (but you could totally do that to save a step!).  I cut the bottom set of leaves off of each stem to make them more proportional to the flow and then took the berry stem and cut it apart to give me two berry sets from one die cut.  I put a Mini Dimensional under the center of the flower (the perfect size!) and attached the second flower to the top one.  Then I used Glue Dots to attack the rest behind the center of the flowers.  Using a Basic Pearl that was colored with a Copic Marker, I added a center that covered all that was underneath.

Fancy Friday Closeup by Jen Timko | Flourish Thinlits by Stampin' Up, Merry Café Stamp Set, Pillow Box by Paper PumpkinNext, I stamped the sentiment from Merry Café onto some more watercolor paper (to ensure a color match) and then cut it out with the oval die from the Coffee Cups Framelits.  I set it up for the sentiment to sit a little low in the oval to allow room to cut a little hole with my 1/8″ Circle Punch to create a tag.  Cute, right?  I wrapped the box with Linen Thread and tied on the tag.  I used some glue to attach the floral spray to the box (to make sure it stayed put!).

Those of you who know me, know that 3D projects are not my go-to thing.  But Paper Pumpkin elements make it easy to look like a real pro!  Don’t be afraid to think outside the, well, box on those!  I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop.  Next up is my friend, the always amazing Jeanna Bohanon.

FMS307 by Jen Timko | Autumn Leaves Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Stitched Shapes Framelits by Stampin' Up, Tim Holtz Oxide Inks, Paper Pumpkin, Wood Textures DSP by Stampin' UpHappy Wednesday to you!  I took a little bit of a break last week to catch up on home things and to even clean my stamp room.  Seriously, it was out of control and I needed to reorganize before I could work in there anymore.  I’m sure you have been there!

I’m the sketch hostess this week over at Freshly Made Sketches and I wanted to make a sketch that could be interpreted in a few different ways.  I chose to go with it “as is” and made a little frame using my Stitched Shapes Framelits.  If you follow the Newton’s Nook Designs newsletter, you saw how I created these leaves for yesterday’s “Designer’s Nook”.  They use the Autumn Leaves Dies and are so pretty!!  The background is the fabulous Wood Textures paper by Stampin’ Up (a go-to for fall, don’t you think?!).  I added a piece of the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon as another layer of texture.  The sentiment strip was cut from the same paper that I used for the leaves (where I had splattered ink) and this stamp is from the July Paper Pumpkin.  Don’t forget how much those add to your sentiment repertoire!  I found a few sequins in coordinating colors so of course I had to throw them on!

I hope you enjoy this sketch.  The design team has tons of inspiration, as always, and I would love to see you in the gallery!  Thanks so much for stopping by today!  See you soon!

Supplies:

Stamp:  July Paper Pumpkin Sentiment; Paper:  Arches Watercolor Paper, Wood Textures DSP (SU); Ink:  Early Espresso, Tim Holtz Oxide Ink; Accessories: Misti, Big Shot, Stitched Shapes Dies (SU), Autumn Leaves Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon (SU), Sequins (Honey Bee Stamps, Pretty Pink Posh)

Rainy Day

Rainy Day published on 2 Comments on Rainy Day

Rainy Day by Jen Timko | Newton's Rainy Day Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook, Chameleon Pens, Chameleon Color TopsToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and given the news from Texas, my inspiration for this isn’t too hard to guess.  I thought that Newton’s Rainy Day was the perfect set for creating a card right now.

As soon as I pulled out this image with the big umbrella, I thought that my new Chameleon Color Tops would be fun to use.  And yep, was I right!  The shading on each panel was created by starting with a base color pen and then infusing with another color.  So my Fuchsia (PK5) pen was infused with Mellow Yellow (YO2) and what a cool effect, don’t you think?!  Same with the Turquoise (BG3) (infused with Mellow Yellow).  For the duck I used Mellow Yellow infused with Tangerine (OR3).  The kitty is Neutral Gray (NG4).

I combined “regular” Chameleon use with the Color Tops on this and it is amazing how much fun it was to experiment with color options.  Once I finished coloring, I was looking for just the right background when this one virtually jumped out at me.  Um, yeah…the ombré yellow from the Color Theory DSP matched perfectly!  I created a little frame and added some sequins and left most of the focus on this adorable image and its bright colors.  I hope you like my Newton’s extra this month.  So glad you stopped in to see me.  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, have a great day!

Stamp: Newton’s Rainy Day (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Momento Tuxedo Black, Chameleon Pens, Chameleon Color Tops; Paper:  Strathmore Mixed Media, Color Theory DSP (SU); Accessories:  Big Shot, Newton’s Rainy Day Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS), Misti, White Baker’s Twine, Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh), Mini Dimensionals

Freshly Made Sketches #300 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #300

FMS300 by Jen Timko | Vibrant Thanks Stamp by Power Poppy, Floral Boutique DSP by Stampin' Up, Layered Leaves Embossing Folder by Stampin' UpSo today is a very special day for the whole team at Freshly Made Sketches.  We have hit another milestone and we are thrilled to celebrate!  Sketch #300!!  WOW!  I’m personally just in awe of the inspiration that all the players over the years have given.  I might be a little biased but this has been an amazing challenge from the very beginning.  And yes….I actually played along on Sketch #1.  I even got chosen as a Perfect Princess by my friend Linda (I knew I loved her, haha!!!).  Jen Mitchell, Linda Callahan and Rita Wright have been on the team since the beginning and we have had amazing stampers with us along the way.  What a privilege it is to work with people who are not only extraordinarily talented but also are simply incredible people!!

So that was my inspiration for today’s card.  The sentiment pretty much says it all (it is from the gorgeous new Vibrant Thanks by Power Poppy)!  Thanks to you, my blog readers, and to all who play along each week and keep this challenge fresh week after week.  I enjoy seeing your creations, and watching as you all grow in your crafting along with us.  After all, we are first and foremost enablers!  I used this beautiful paper from last year’s Stampin’ Up Catalog (this year’s catalog features a fresh version in the new In Colors).  I love how the leaves in the paper coordinate with the new Layered Leaves embossing folder so I combined them for the panels.  I added some Navy twine that I unravelled to give it a looser look.  I even lined the envelope with designer paper to make it extra special.

And I really tried to make this extra special since one of our players this week will win all the cards created by the team for this challenge.  I know.  And I already asked if I could enter again….  Apparently it would look suspicious if I won.  *smile*  I continue to be astonished at how different cards can be that are created from the same sketch and the design team has created a beautiful variety for you this week.  I very much hope you will have time to join us in our celebration.  Having a hard time not getting too “sappy” (as my kids call me) so I’ll leave it there.  I’ll see you in the gallery.

Supplies:

Stamp:  Vibrant Thanks (Power Poppy); Paper:  Thick Whisper White (SU), Floral Boutique DSP (SU); Ink:  Night of Navy; Accessories: Big Shot, Layered Leaves Embossing Folder (SU), Ovals Dies (SU ret), Night of Navy Twine (SU ret), Misti

Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 1

Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 1 published on 40 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 1

I am so thrilled to begin this amazing week celebrating 4 years of inspiration from Newton’s Nook Designs.  What it takes to make the leap of faith to start your own company always amazes me but wow am I glad Newton’s Nook Designs is a part of this amazing industry!  I might be a little biased but any time art can bring such smiles and joy, it is a wonderful thing and something to celebrate.  And celebrate is what we are doing this week!  My post today is longer than normal because we are revealing an incredible set of products.  Two (yep TWO) stamp sets, four (oh yeah…FOUR) stencils and a new border dies set.  And that is only today’s reveal.  Hang on my friends!  This is going to be fun!

Meet Me At The Lake by Jen Timko | Winston's Lake House Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Watercolor

I’m going to start you off with a fun stamp set called Winston’s Lake House.  Using Distress Ink in Broken China, I played with the “smoosh” technique for watercoloring.  I applied ink to an acetate sheet and then spritzed it with water.  Then I laid the acetate down onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper to get the cool water effect.  I love how it turned out!!  The way the color pools was perfect to created the dimension I wanted for the lake.  After letting it dry, I used the new Sea Borders Dies (combined with a Stitched Rectangles Die) to created the waves for our little friends.  All I had to do was offset the border die to get this look.  Fun, right??  I did the same thing with Peeled Paint ink for the ground and used the Land Borders Dies instead.  Yep…all the dies coordinate perfectly.  Then I stamped the images in Versafine Onyx Black and colored with more Distress Ink.  That little cottage is one I want to visit for sure!  And not sure what it is about the little dragonfly but I just could not resist adding it on.  The corrugated paper seemed like the perfect background for this scene to show off all the details in these new images and dies.Advice from the Lake by Jen Timko | Lake Advice Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Wood Textures DSP by Stampin' UpSo now on to the second stamp set called Lake Advice.  I had a ton of ideas on how to use this with the Winston set but I thought maybe it was better just to focus on this sentiment.  It is really a great one!  I stamped it onto vellum using Early Espresso ink (SU) and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder to make it really stand out.  Then I took a piece of the Wood Textures DSP from SU (already a fabulous wooden look) and cut it up to make it look like planks on a palette.  I used a darker color of the same DSP for the base.

And now we get to talk about these stencils.  You should have seen the response when the DT heard about them.  And then again when we saw them!!!  Oh, they are fun and so perfect for the release.  Want to see them???  Of course you do!  I will be showing you more with them as the week goes on too.  And then check out what you could win this week!

Would you like to win a $20 store credit to Newton’s Nook Designs?

Freshly Made Sketches #295

Freshly Made Sketches #295 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #295

FMS295 by Jen Timko | Quirky Critters Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Copic ColoringSo remember in my post last Friday (for Fancy Friday) where I talked about some of my favorite things from the new Stampin’ Up catalog??  Well, yesterday I showed you a bit of why I love the Color Theory paper and today I’ve got the narwhal!!  I love him!!  The incredibly talented Narelle Farrugia is our sketch hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches and I thought her sketch this week gave me the perfect chance to show you this fellow.

He comes from the stamp set called Quirky Critters and actually has a sentiment attached to him.  I could not seem to make the sentiment work for the sketch but I really wanted to use him.  So….I just cut him out by hand and added another sentiment from Newton’s Nook instead (Beautiful Plumage).  I think this one is super fun and perfect for this guy.  I stamped the narwhal using Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored him with Copic Markers.  He seemed to fit better on a little square than a circle so I hope Narelle doesn’t mind the switch.  For the horizontal element I tried something new.  A few weeks ago, my mom was here to visit.  She is an amazing quilter and believes in supporting local quilt shops wherever she travels.  Hmmm….that may explain where I get that from! As we were looking around (and the shop here in Warrenton is called Kelly Ann’s Quilting…a gorgeous shop!), I was falling in love with all the prints and patterns, wishing they were all paper.  Then I spied this tiny rickrack trim (in multiple colors no less!).  Needless to say, I grabbed it right up.  Isn’t it fun???  Ok, well, I’m completely off track for my post but seriously, shops like that are so inspirational!  Since this rickrack matched the narwhal perfectly, it was clearly meant to be.  I match the bling elements of the sketch, I added some Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.  They are clear but have a bit of gray tint to them so I love them on cards with gray.

Well, I hope you love this little guy as much as I do.  Not sure why, but he really does crack me up.  I showed the card to my husband and he said it was just like the narwhal from the movie Elf.  So on that note….”Bye Buddy”! Thanks for stopping in today!  Hope your week is great!

Lovely Yellow Blooms by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Chameleon Pens, Color Theory DSP by Stampin' UpToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I just had to continue with making pretty summer cards with this Lovely Blooms stamp set.  This flower set really is awesome for coloring!

Is there such thing as a yellow hydrangea??  I’m not sure but I created one in any case.  Using my Chameleon pens, I colored the flowers and the leaves to coordinate with this new Color Theory DSP from Stampin’ Up.  I LOVE this paper!  It is the perfect background for almost any image but it really shows off this flower.  The sentiment is a go-to for me lately and it comes from the Happy Little Thoughts stamp set (NND).  I colored some Basic Pearls with the Olive Chameleon pen and added those fora little more detail.  The whole image panel is on a Crushed Curry card base.

For those of you in the US, I hope you have a wonderful and safe 4th of July!!  So glad you stopped in today.  See you tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!

Stamp: Lovely Blooms (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Momento Tuxedo Black, Chameleon Pens (Y03 Warm Sunset, OL3 Olive Green); Paper:  Thick Whisper White (SU), Color Theory DSP (SU), Crushed Curry; Accessories:  Big Shot, Lovely Blooms Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), Misti, Basic Pearls

Fancy Friday – A Fancy Top 5

Fancy Friday – A Fancy Top 5 published on 2 Comments on Fancy Friday – A Fancy Top 5

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from Paula Dobson, welcome to the next stop.  For June we are sharing our personal “Top 5” lists from the new 2017-18 Stampin’ Up Catalog.  Choosing 5…that was the hard part for sure!

Fancy Friday - Hello by Jen Timko | Floral Statements Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Watercolor, Zig Clean Color MarkersI managed to combine 3 of my top choices onto this one card to show you why I love them so much.  This new Floral Statements stamp set was an absolute must buy for me and I ordered it immediately.  I’m so glad I did!  Isn’t it gorgeous??!!  I stamped it in black onto watercolor paper and then colored it.  Super fast watercoloring!  But the result is fabulous!  I put it onto a base of the new Lemon Lime Twist card stock and I love the pop of color.  And as an accent to the pink, I added the new sequins.  These are the Iridescent color from the Metallics Sequins Assortment.  Oh my, these are a wow!

To round out my choices, I just have to discuss the new Color Theory DSP.  This paper pack will be a go-to for so many of your cards!  The colors and the unique uses of the shades is perfect for so many projects.  And last (but not least)….the narwhal set (otherwise known as Quirky Critters).  I have no reasonable explanation of why I am obsessed with this set but I am.  Totally fun, totally adorable…and just a little quirky!

So here it is in list form:

  1. Floral Statements Stamp Set
  2. Lemon Lime Twist (in EVERYTHING)…and the other In Colors are fabulous too!
  3. Sequins – Metallics, Iridescent, all of them!
  4. Color Theory DSP
  5. Quirky Critters Stamp Set

I hope you like my take on the top 5.  Now on to the rest of the hop!  These talented stampers are going to inspire you for sure and I cannot wait to see what they enable me to buy share as their must haves!  Next up is the lovely Shannon Lane.

Freshly Made Sketches #294

Freshly Made Sketches #294 published on 14 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #294

FMS294 by Jen Timko | Coffee Break DSP by Stampin' Up, Funny Coffee Stamp by Skipping Stones DesignsI’m sure you have already seen the gazillions of coffee cards across blog land this week and I could not resist adding one more!  It is the week for the 2017 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop and I just had to combine the coffee theme with this week’s new challenge from Freshly Made Sketches.  The lovely queen of color, Amy O’Neill, is our sketch designer this week and I love this classic look.

I started with the new Coffee Break DSP from Stampin’ Up and pretty much let the paper do all the work.  The French Press and the cup…straight from the paper (just fussy cut and off you go).  And check out that coffee bean paper!!!  I was in a huge hurry to create this but just could not let the hop and great sketch go by without playing along.  I only stamped this fun sentiment from Skipping Stones Designs and put the card together.  I added a few sequins from an old Paper Pumpkin set to give it a little bling and still keep it on the masculine side.  I thought the colors lent themselves to that and I always seem a little short on “man cards”.

So I have been stamping a ton with a lot to share in the upcoming weeks.  And also, flying lots and lots.  Summer is always the busy time for us airline folks!  I love having all the summer people on the planes.  There is a great energy and excitement for vacations.  I particularly love when the kids visit us in the front!!  So I apologize for some of my absences.  I am, however, super excited about the Fancy Friday hop we have coming up this week.  I hope you’ll join us.

For now, hop on over to Freshly Made Sketches and see all the amazing work from the design team this week.  You’ll be happy you did.  Have a great day!

Supplies:

Stamp:  Funny Coffee (Skipping Stones Designs); Paper:  Coffee Break DSP (SU), Thick Whisper White (SU), Old Olive; Ink:  Early Espresso; Accessories: Bronze Sequins (Paper Pumpkin by SU)
