Fancy Friday – Back to the 80s!

Fancy Friday – Back to the 80s! published on 7 Comments on Fancy Friday – Back to the 80s!

FF Jun - Lucky StarWelcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of demonstrators who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from my amazing friend Connie, welcome to the next stop.  For May, our theme is Back to the 80s!  Yep, you read that right!  Bright colors, big hair, bigger shoulder pads and, my inspiration for today, Madonna!

14af8df5e7b18380857faee7396d2291Just take a look at this picture of her!  By the time you are done with my post, you too will be singing Lucky Star in your head.  You can thank me any time!! I started off pondering the thought of acid washed jeans.  And I really pondered why we all thought it was a good idea.  But we did.  So why not play around with the new In Color Dapper Denim to see how denim-like it really is.  Well if you add a little bleach in splatters, apparently it is really like denim.  AWESOME!  Then I got a little crazier and actually stamped using bleach too.  The new Flourishing Phrases had a perfect little sentiment to try.  Now this is a red rubber stamp and I’m pretty sure the bleach is tough enough on that.  I strongly discourage you from trying it with a photopolymer stamp.  Pretty sure you would not be happy with the result!  Even still, right after stamping I cleaned it first with water and then with Stampin’ Mist and then again with water.  I kept up the Madonna theme by pulling out lace things from my stash because it was all about lace and pearls and layered accessories if you were going to do the Madonna fashion trend!  These are all retired SU things that I have hoarded kept safe for just the right project and this just had to be it!  The Tea Lace Doily just retired and there is a new even fancier version.  The lace is from a kit (Artisan, I think) and the gold star clip was perfect to complete my Madonna theme.  I added a star punched from Gold Foil to add a little more focus there.  So….how did I do??  Are you singing Lucky Star yet??? Please tell me you know the song so I don’t feel too old!!

Freshly Made Sketches #199

Freshly Made Sketches #199 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #199

Happy Wednesday!  It is usually one of my favorite days but next week, it is sure to be YOURS as well.  Our 200th Sketch Celebration at Freshly Made Sketches is  next week at you don’t want to miss it!  Keep an eye on the FMS blog this week to see all the amazing sponsors who will be joining us!

This week our sketch is worth celebrating too!  Karren is our sketch hostess and she has created one that I simply love.

FMS199 - Amazing

I pulled out an old favorite for this one and kept it super clean to focus on this pretty flower.  I stamped the image from Simply Sketched in Basic Gray onto Thick Whisper White.  I added Daffodil Delight, So Saffron and Basic Gray to the flower with my Aquapainter.  Super simple to do and such a great result!  I put the panel up on Dimensionals onto a Basic Gray base and then added this Paper Pumpkin sentiment backed up with some retired Washi Tape.  A few Basic Pearls are sprinkled on for a little extra elegance.

I have started seeing the previews of what the FMS team has for you next week (and what our guest DT members have created)…I’m here to tell you that you will be blown away with the talent!  Since you can’t see that quite yet, I’ll just send you over to FMS for this week’s inspiration.  The team never disappoints!
200th Sketch

FMS Final 199-001I hope your week is fantastic.  My summer seems to be flying by with my oldest son starting back to school next week.  How can that even be????  I’m enjoying the last few days with the boys and then some more flying this weekend.  I’ll be back on Monday with a new Stamp Review Crew card.  Until then….have a great week!

Stampin’ Addicts Retiring Stamps Hop – Regarding Dahlias

Stampin’ Addicts Retiring Stamps Hop – Regarding Dahlias published on 8 Comments on Stampin’ Addicts Retiring Stamps Hop – Regarding Dahlias

Retiring Banner

Wow am I happy to be hopping with my friends over at Stampin’ Addicts this week.  They are some of my favorite stampers and I always love the inspiration I find in their hops.  It is time to bid a fond farewell to our retiring stamp sets and it will certainly be hard to say good-bye to some of them.

If you just came over from the wonderful Carmen of Stamping Addiction, I’m so glad you are here!  Don’t you love her projects with Quinceanera?  If you want to see everyone who is hopping or if you get lost along the way, just click over to the Stampin’ Addicts site for the entire list.

So I chose one of my favorite ever stamp sets for the hop.  Regarding Dahlias has that fabulous flower.  Seriously, it cannot make a bad card this flower.  But then there are the great sentiments too!  I find myself pulling them all the time!

SA Retiring Hop - Golden Dahlia

My first card today is all about gold!  I took the flower and stamped it in Gold Encore ink then heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I cut the panel so that I could allow a strip of the Gold Foil to show through.  A super easy way to add some wow!  The Gold Basic Button is tied with the metallic threads from the Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine and I added a sentiment from Flower Patch.  I love the clean elegance of this card!

SA Retiring Hop - Thank you

Next up is a card using my favorite color combination for this flower.  Cherry Cobbler with black and white/vanilla.  Typeset DSP provides the the background and stripes details.  The flower and sentiment are stamped on Very Vanilla card stock.  I popped some layers up on Dimensionals and added some Basic Pearls that were colored with a black Sharpie marker.

I hope you like today’s projects.  Like you, I can’t wait to see all that the others have for inspiration!  Hop on over to my friend Heidi at Running w/Scissors Stamper to continue on your way around.  She has some wonderful things to show you with Starburst Sayings.  So glad you dropped in today.  See you again soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #184

Freshly Made Sketches #184 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #184

Such a great day here in Northern Virginia!!  We are finally having real live beautiful spring weather (complete with the requisite pollen, of course).  I was out planting flowers and some herbs yesterday!  So wonderful!  All my outside time, and the continuing soccer-palooza, has cut into my crafting time.  Thank goodness for Freshly Made Sketches to keep me on track!  My friend Kim is sending us “over the edge” this week with her sketch.  Perfect for how I’m feeling with our family schedule this week!!  *smile*

FMS184 - Be You(tiful)Kim’s sketch is so smart and fun.  She has an element hanging over the edge of the card.  Just narrow your base to accommodate how much the element goes over.  That keeps it able to be mailed easily.  I made my card base 5-1/2″ x 4″ (once folded).  Now….I need a moment of silence for the retiring Naturals Ivory Card Stock.  This has been a favorite of mine for, well, forever.  I love the little speckles and I especially love it in the fall.  I love how it takes ink just a little differently than the smooth card stocks which adds to a vintage look with no actual work.  I stamped the border from Butterfly Basics twice in Crumb Cake.  Then I stamped the big flower from Flower Patch in Crumb Cake and the smaller one in Pool Party and fussy cut them out.  There are framelits but I didn’t want the borders on this.  The sentiment is from Flower Patch too and I love this one!!!  A Basic Gold Button tied with Linen Thread to finish.

I hope you are having a lovely week too.  Don’t forget that the Retirement List (and sale) is still on and you can see what is still available at my Online Store.  I’m excited to be learning more about the new catalog as the Convention in Australia gets underway tomorrow (stalk the demos from down under to see the exciting developments…I will be….).  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!

FF Apr - Hello Friend

I am so excited to share with you this month’s project with for our Fancy Friday monthly hop!  If you just came over from the amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  My friends and I want to be able to share with you our ideas in a monthly format.  We will use different themes each month – sometimes colors, sometimes a sketch, sometimes a stamp set focus.  The one thing you can count on is that it will be fancy!  Over our year on the 2013 Artisan Design Team,  “fancy” became our word to describe the best projects, the best new clothes, even the best pedicure colors.  Now we want to share with you our take on “fancy” each month.  This month our theme is “We will miss you”!  We are making projects with items on the newly released Retirement List.

6a00e54f94e01b883401b8d05ef236970c-500wi

I think this sentiment from Hi There is so fabulous!  The perfect cursive!  And a great size to combine with other stamps.  I created the ‘friend’ with my Alphabet Rotary Stamp (not retiring, thank goodness) using Lost Lagoon and they work together perfectly.  The ‘hello’ is stamped and embossed with Crushed Curry Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I used my Piercing Tool down one side of the Whisper White panel and attached a button tied with Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine.  I added the background polka dot pattern from the Flowerpot dsp for some color and a Night of Navy panel underneath the image for a little pop.  This is such a fun card to make and you can change your sentiment to fit whomever you want to say hello to!

My oh so talented friend Mercedes Weber is up next!   As always, you are going to love what she created!

Freshly Made Sketches #183

Freshly Made Sketches #183 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #183

Wow, oh wow….we really did break the internet yesterday with the release of Stampin’ Up’s Retirement List.  The site was overwhelmed with orders and was even down for a while.  I suspect things have calmed down a bit today so if you weren’t quite ready to jump into the fray, it should be safe today.  *smile*

Our sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week comes from my friend Linda Callahan.  She always seems to come up with just what I need to prod my mojo along!  Since I had seen a preview of the retiring items on Monday when the Australian retirement list came out, I pulled out one of my favorite sets from the list to show you.

FMS183 - Hi (and goodbye)

First of all, I’m channeling a little bit of my friend Amy O’Neill here, don’t you think?!  These seem like her kind of colors!!  I can safely say that I’m using her kind of stamp set because she is the one who “made” me buy it.  Regarding Dahlias is a set that is never, ever the wrong choice.  I resisted it at first but after seeing all the amazing cards Amy was making with it after it was released, I just had to have it.  One of my best purchases!!  My FMS friends are all well known enablers but I have to really thank Amy on this one!!  Almost everything on this card will be retiring.  The Epic Day Washi Tape along the bottom is on the list (and isn’t Washi perfect for the sketch?!).  The stamp set, of course, and the Basic Gray Baker’s Twine along with the Coastal Cabana (an In Color) base and the Basic Gray Ink Pad (which I used for the sentiment).  Now they are reformulating the Basic Gray and the Basic Black so never to fear.  They aren’t REALLY gone.  I used Calypso Coral ink for the flower and a button in the same color.  Those are staying.  Whew!

FMS Final 183-001You are going to have a blast with the sketch this week.  I predict a gigantic gallery!!  The team has done their usual brilliant work.  Watch out for them…..you are sure to be enabled!!

I’ll be back on Friday with this month’s edition of the Fancy Friday Blog Hop.  My fancy friends and I have a real treat planned for you!  I hope you are having a wonderful week and I can’t wait to see you Friday.  Until then, thanks for stopping in!

Spellbinders - Thank You

I know you already know what an amazing resource Splitcoaststampers can be for your crafting, but did you know that they also have a Product Review Team??  Imagine how thrilled I was to be asked by the awe-inspiring Lori Craig to join the team!!  I’m sure you’ve noticed my use of this fun embossing folder from Spellbinders lately.  Well, that was one of the items in the latest review.  Hop on over to the Product Focus page to see my first review (right at the top of the page – Spellbinders 3D Embossing Folders – just click on in).  This is a fantastic resource for you and I know you’ll be happy to get info on the latest products.

I love showing how beautifully Stampin’ Up products with with those from other companies and this card is a great example!  I chose this sentiment from Another Thank You and stamped on a Project Life by Stampin’ Up (PLxSU) card.  I kind of kept to the nautical feel of the embossing by using the log look on the sentiment panel and the little banners.  Cut the panels with my SSS Stitched Rectangles dies.  I had this retired Calypso Coral button that had added just the right detail to finish.

Hope you had a great weekend!  I’ll be back on Wednesday with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!  Thanks for stopping in today!

Freshly Made Sketches #182

Freshly Made Sketches #182 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #182

It is official.  I have entered the spring crazy season.  Otherwise known in my house as soccer-palooza!  Both boys play soccer and my older one also made his middle school team.  My feet hurt just watching them.  *smile*  Two days a week, the older one has both a school practice and a travel team practice and then there are the days that he has a school team game and then a practice.  But they are outside and happy and THAT is a good thing!  I am recovering from the two weeks of spring break and catching up on some things too.  My yard got the first mowing of the year and I am tending to the plants and even planting some new stuff.  Spring is awesome!  What else is awesome??!!!  Ok, you know the answer because it is Wednesday.  Yes, Freshly Made Sketches is awesome!!!   I just love my friends on the design team and I can’t wait to see what they make each week.  This week is going to make you happy.  REALLY happy!  My friend Rita Wright is the hostess this week and her sketch nearly made me giddy. This is one you’ll go back to again and again.

FMS182 - Sympathy

I have a local friend who has had a rough month or so.  She is such a tough person but even tough has a breaking point.  We were talking about stamping together because she needed some extra sympathy cards (hers have been used up…yep, rough month) but then more stuff just got in the way.  So instead I thought it might be good to make a couple for her to have on hand.  Because these are something you don’t want to make when you need them.  I just knew Rita’s sketch was a perfect place to start and this came together quickly.  I pulled out some hostess sets (one from this year and one from last) and stamped this clean image.  The flower from Bloom with Hope is so pretty and just the right size for this image panel.  The sentiment is from Simply Sketched.  I stamped in Early Espresso and colored with my Blendabilities (Soft Sky, Old Olive).  I cut the layers with my Simply Stitched dies (SSS).  Finally a few pearls to finish.  Clean but perfect for anyone who needs to know you are thinking of them.  I had a few other cards already made and I just sent them over.  I’m praying she just doesn’t need them.

So it hit me (as it does every now and then) that for all the cards I make, I’m just awful about putting them in the mail.  I am going to make an effort over the next few weeks to simply “clean out” the stash and get them off in the mail.  Maybe you’ll consider joining me.  It will brighten someone’s day for sure!!

Ok…off you go for the weekly dose of FMS inspiration.  You know you won’t be disappointed!!  I hope that your week is fantastic and I’ll see you soon. Thanks for stopping in!SOTF - April Sneak Peek

Freshly Made Sketches #180

Freshly Made Sketches #180 published on 5 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #180

Happy Wednesday!  I hope you are having a fabulous week.  I have to say that this will be short and sweet today.  My boys have only a little bit of overlap on their spring breaks from school and today is the start of that.  I have a little bit of “business” at the end of this post and I will be handling that as needed but otherwise I plan to take off through Easter to spend time with my boys.

I am the sketch hostess for today at Freshly Made Sketches and I hope you will enjoy this one!

FMS180 - Hello Sunshine

I created this little burst of sunshine using the So You stamp from the Occasions catalog.  I love this stamp set for the sentiments alone but this stamp is such fun.  I stamped it onto the Moonlight DSP and then cut out the rays.  I stamped them onto the Whisper White card stock too so I had a guide and then just placed the cut outs on top.  The clouds were cut from another print using the Word Bubble Framelits.  I outlined the edges of of the clouds using my black Stampin’ Write Marker so that it mimicked the look of the fussy cut rays.  I added the sentiment from the same stamp set and threw on a few sequins that I had left from a Paper Pumpkin.

FMS Final 180-001I love what the DT has created with my sketch and I hope you’ll have some time to play along too.  As I said, I’m going to be taking a bit of a break but I will have a post for you tomorrow.  I have been busily working on my Sketch of the Month version of Stamps on the Fly but I think it is easier to run that information in a separate post.  I have all the projects ready and the videos made so I can’t wait to share the sneak peek.  Until then, I hope your day is great.  Thanks for stopping in!
