FMS228 - Watermelon BlossomWell, all I can say is thank goodness for Freshly Made Sketches!!  The beginning of the flying month held 8 out of 11 days gone from home so I can safely say that stamping was pretty much off the table.  Then I came home to a house full of sick boys (big and little, alike!) and the last few days haven’t allowed much time to myself.  Thankfully, I got to the stamp room for a few minutes yesterday and got to try my take at Kim‘s super fun sketch.  I was feeling absolutely NO mojo when I walked in.  Totally distracted and my brain racing will all the stuff I need to get done.  But her sketch seemed so perfect when I looked around at my stamps.

I had this old retired set, Betsy’s Blossoms, sitting in my closet but it virtually jumped off the shelf for this one.  I thought it might be fun to use it with updated colors and I fell in love with it all over again!  I stamped the flower in Watermelon Wonder, added mask and then stamped the leaves using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.  I cut a piece of Basic Black to look like a label and added the sentiment from Lil’ Inker Designs Fancy Feathers set.  It was stamped in Versamark and embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I added a layer of black to make the white pop and put it on a Watermelon card base.  Super simple but I really love how modern it looks!!

I’m hoping to get back to some more stamping today and tomorrow and I should be back for an early edition of Fancy Friday later this week.  Until then, I hope you’ll go enjoy the inspiration from the team!  See you soon!

Jen Timko - Smile - Happy BirdsJust a quick post today to share a card I made with a fun new stamp set from WPlus9 called Happy Birds.  Sometimes you see a set that just calls out your name and you HAVE to have it and this was one of them for me!  of course I got the little dies that coordinate because, well….just has to be done!!  So for the 30 Day Coloring Challenge, I had stamped a bunch of the birds and then colored them with both Copics and Zigs.  I chose this one colored with Copics (BG11, BG13, BG15, Y17, Y06) after having stamped it with Momento Tuxedo Black ink.    I wanted this one to have a sense of fun given the sentiment so I created a shaker card.  The circle frame was created using the Stitched Mats Circles Dies from Lil’ Inker Designs….fun right?!  I used a window sheet and cut a circle from it too and layered it under the frame.  Then I pulled out some sequins that I thought were a great match.  These are some of the Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim flat circles pulled off the trim combined with some of the Metallics Sequins (all from SU).  All of this was added to a panel cut with the Stitched Rectangles from SSS. The sentiment was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black Ink.

So….I hope this does put a big smile on your face!  Coloring these certainly has had that effect on me!  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!  See you then!

FMS223 - Blooming WatercolorI am so happy to be back today with this awesome new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our resident Artisan, Amy O’Neill, has created a super one for us this week.  You will see the team has some cool interpretations and I think you will have fun with this one.

I continued on my efforts to color as much as possible for The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge.  I was very inspired by the incredible Dawn Woleslagle of WPlus9 and wanted to try her technique for creating a watercolor look using stamps.  She is a true artist but I simplified her method a bit to make these little flowers.  I have a video to show you the details.

FMS Final 223-001I hope you have a great time playing along with us this week!  Let me know what you think about the technique and tutorial, too.  I’m working this week but brought along some coloring to do.  With any luck, you’ll see the results in a card soon (or maybe on Instagram even sooner).  Until then…have a great day!  Thanks for stopping in!

You’re in my Thoughts

You’re in my Thoughts published on 5 Comments on You’re in my Thoughts

You're in my ThoughtsI hope your weekend is going well!  We are finally digging out of all the snow and life is returning to normal.  Both boys may even go to school tomorrow!  Yay!!  My oldest missed a whole week.  Eek!  I know a lot of people make fun of this area and how it handles snow but the reality is that we have equipment that is good for regular little snows and NOT for gigantic storms like Snowzilla.  So it takes a bit.  But I did have a great time with sledding along with all the shoveling.  Over all, a mom win for time spent with the boys!

Meanwhile, back at the stamp table, I was able to finally put together something that I worked on over a week ago.  I showed a peek of the coloring in progress on my Instagram page (link is over in my sidebar if you want to follow).  I was practicing my no-line coloring using just grays.  In this case, Copic Toner Grays T0, T2 and T5.  The flower is from Altenew’s Beautiful Day.  I stamped in SU Smoky Slate ink and then did the coloring.  I added a little white to the center with a White Gel Pen.  The sentiment is from Watercolor Wishes and also stamped in Smoky Slate.  I cut the white layer with a Lil’ Inkers Border Builders Die and added a piece of Basic Grey Vivienne DSP underneath.  Some Sparkling Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh were a nice finishing touch.  You can get most of these products all in one place at Simon Says Stamp.

wednesdayblog-logoI hope you enjoy this one.  I had fun practicing my coloring.  Even more fun when it turns into something worth showing (not everything does but the practice is still worth it!).  Thought I’d add this in on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge this week – the theme is Anything Goes.  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

CTS#155 - Ombre Feathers

Happy weekend to you!!  I hope you are having a great one!  I had a little time to stamp yesterday and I wanted to join in some fun challenges.  First, I saw an incredibly cool sketch over at CAS(E) this Sketch and I decided to combine it with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge to use Ombre in your card.

CTS_155

I had the feathers out on my desk still from the FMS Challenge this week so that was my starting place.  Instead of using the stamp set that coordinates, I only used the Fancy Feathers Dies (Lil’ Inker Designs) and cut a couple out of Fabriano Watercolor Paper.  Then using Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Spiced Marmalade, Ripe Persimmon and Picked Raspberry (sounds like a tasty summer treat, doesn’t it?!), I colored to create a graduated ombre look to the feathers.  After they were dry, I spritzed on a little water to add to the look.  For the sentiment I went in reverse and inked up the watercolor paper first (same colors) and then cut it out with a little bonus die that I got from Taylored Expressions with an order….love the size and font on this one!  Then on to the sketch.  I found this one intriguing but challenging.  I thought this curved stitched die from the Border Builders set (Lil’ Inker Designs) did a pretty good job of approximating the sketch so I cut some more watercolor paper with it and put in on a Tangerine Tango (SU) card base.  Finally I added the White Perfect Accents (backs removed) to finish.

Well, off to see what the weekend holds.  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

FMS219 - Just Believe

Well, winter has finally found its way to Northern Virginia….wow it is cold today!!  The good news is that the weather was just the excuse to hang out in the stamp room yesterday.  My mom is visiting so we did some stamping and hanging out.  She was a big help on this card because I kept running into creative road blocks.  Which is crazy because this sketch is awesome!  The oh so amazing Cindy Hall created this one and it is a classic for sure.

Over the Black Friday time frame, I took advantage of some great deals from Lil’ Inker Designs and purchased this Fancy Feathers stamp set that I had wanted for quite a while. I just love these feathers and their matching dies!  The sentiments in the set fill some holes I had too so this was a big win to find it on sale!  Now that the holidays are over, I finally had the chance to break out the set and I love it even more than I thought!  I kept this to all gold and white.  I cheated a little, maybe, on the sketch because I didn’t create two panel colors on the base but I think I kept to the spirit of the layout at least.  Good thing Cindy already told us that we could not be fired with her as the boss this week!  Whew!  *smile*  I inked up the feathers using Versamark and heat embossed them with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The same for the sentiment.  I created the frame by layering the Stitched Rectangles Dies from Simon Says Stamp.  The Gold Thread and gold sequins from the Metallics Sequins (SU) add a little more gold goodness!  For some reason it looks dark here but the shine in person is really pretty.  I just love the sentiment and my mom had a great suggestion for the perfect recipient!

Ok, the team has rocked the sketch and you are going to have a great time with it for sure.  So off to the stamp rooms!  Can’t wait to see your creations!

FMS Final 219-001Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!
