Freshly Made Sketches #125

FMS Final 125-001

Narelle has an awesome new sketch for us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.  This classic look has all kinds of possibilities!  I opted to keep really true to the sketch and keep it pretty simple.

FMS125 - Spiral Flower Thanks

As soon as I saw the sketch, I thought flower.  Because it is snowing again and I’m ready for flowers.  But which flower?  I had not played with the new Spiral Flower Die so it seemed like a good time to pull it out.  The Watercolor Wonder DSP is a new obsession and it seemed perfect to combine them.  I chose on of the watercolor-y pages with multiple colors (great explanation, right?) for the flower.  Ran that through the Big Shot and all the work is done pretty much.  I used my Bone Folder to add a little curl to the cut out and then rolled it up and attached it together with hot glue.  I rolled it a little loose and the center seemed too empty.  So, I cut a strip of 1/2″ Tangerine Tango about 5″ long and cut with the Fringe Scissors.  Rolled it up and hot glued it to the center.  I chose this polka dot pattern to match and pretty much done.  The sentiment is from Four You (wow, what a useful set).  While the flower makes it unmailable, it is perfect for a hand-delivered thank you, don’t you think?

The team has some fabulous interpretations again this week and you will be certain to love playing along with this one.  Can’t wait to see you in the gallery!

Back tomorrow with some more projects from Leadership.  Until then, thanks so much for stopping by!  See you soon!

The Artisan Design Team’s February box of products has been fantastic.  This is our last week using it but I know you have found lots of inspiration from the projects created by the team.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Feb - Hexagon Flower

So I told you that you would see a lot of the Hexagon Hive Thinlit from me this month.  I wanted to show you its flexibility and the team has shown other amazing ways to use it too.  For today, I have another way to cut down “the hive” to create a new look.  First, I ran the Bermuda Bay Card Stock through the Big Shot (using waxed paper between the paper and the die make it release easily).  Once I had that, I flipped the thinlit 180 degree and lined it up with the existing cut hexagons.  This allowed for all the hexagons to be cut through for the shape I wanted.  It doesn’t necessarily line up over the whole thing but the center is your focus.  The just trim off the extra to get this shape.  I filled the hexagons with prints from the Kaleidescope DSP that were also punched out using the hive.  I glued this onto a base to add a little stability (just loosely hand cut out of a scrap).  The middle hexagon is up on a Dimensional.  I added some little flowers punched with the Boho Blossoms Punch using Crushed Curry, Strawberry Slush, and Bermuda Bay.  The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and the banner end was punched using the Hexagon Punch.  Basic Pearls add the centers to the flowers.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my projects this month.  Up next week is a brand new box of products.  Hmmm, think spring!!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.

Okay, off to go visit the awesome Mercedes Weber.  I can’t wait for you to see what she has created!  Make sure you hop around the whole loop to take a look at beautiful creations by the whole team…you’ll be happy you did!

Perfect Pennants – Hello

Perfect Pennants – Hello published on 1 Comment on Perfect Pennants – Hello

Happy Monday!  I hope your weekend was awesome.  Ok, first things first.  We have a winner!!  The winner of the blog candy is:

Kimberly Merritt!!  I’ll be contacting you later today!

Now back to Leadership Display samples.  Today’s sample uses the set Perfect Pennants.

Perfect Pennants - Hello

I played with a color combination that I just love.  Midnight Muse, Smoky Slate and Daffodil Delight make a wonderful combination.  I embossed the Smoky Slate panel with the Chevron Embossing Folder.  I stamped the hello sentiment stamp in Midnight Muse and the diagonal line stamp win Daffodil Delight.  Then I cut them into the banners (this was before the Pennants dies were available).  I layered them onto a couple more banners and put that on top of a doily.  A few Basic Pearls added for fun.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest Artisan Wednesday Wow.  Hope you’ll stop in to see what we have for you this week.

The rest of the team is showing their Leadership Display Board projects as well so make sure you take a look!

Star Stamper – Gold

Star Stamper – Gold published on 1 Comment on Star Stamper – Gold

Another card using a Leadership stamp set and this one is called Star Stamper.  I fell in love immediately and knew I had to use the “star stamper” image.

Star Stamper - Gold

I had so much fun playing with all the gold on this one.  I started by using Gold Encore Ink and embossing it.  Then I pulled out the Watercolor Wonder Washi Tapes and the Gold Foil.  Of course I needed a star so I found one in my Circle Card Thinlits Dies.  All it took was some quick snips to make the banner ends and a bit of some layering.  Everything is stamped on Very Vanilla and I did layer the washi tape onto card stock before adding them to the card.

I was super happy with how this turned out.  I do love a play on words!  Short and sweet for today.  I just finished the most wonderful visit with the lovely Rita Wright while I was on a layover so I ate into some blogging time.  SOOOO worth it since she is just as fabulous in person  as she is talented!  I’ll be back on Monday with some more from Leadership.  So glad you stopped by today.  Don’t forget to leave your comment for blog candy on Tuesday’s post!!  See you Monday!

FMS Final 124-001

So the wonderful Karren  has created her very first sketch for us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.  This is a really great sketch, don’t you think?

FMS124 - Stems for you

When I created this card, I had hit the point where I was decidedly over winter weather.  I actually like a good snow every now and then but we have had too many weather days and the boys have lost a lot of school days.  I needed a little spring so I created it!  Using these pretty flowers from Simple Stems and the print/colors from Kaleidescope DSP, I thought it would be fun to create a stamped panel with popped up flowers.  I hand cut the flowers (there is a framelit but it doesn’t go with all the flowers I chose) and put them on Dimensionals.  The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes…just the perfect size for the panel!

Ok, short and sweet this morning.  If you missed it, don’t forget to check out yesterday’s card and the blog candy!

Back on Friday with another Leadership project.  Until then, hope your day is great!

The Artisan Design Team’s February box of products is fantastic.  We are continuing to use some of the latest and greatest from the Occasions Catalog.  These are the projects you might have already seen on Stampin’ Up’s Facebook page.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

Oh….and there is blog candy so read to the end!!!

Feb FB - Hello Sweet Friend

So I’m back to the Hexagon Hive.  I told you two weeks ago how much I love it and the team has been showing so many fun ways to use it.  I thought I would go literal with the hive on this one.  It is so easy to do too.  Just cut the Naturals Ivory Card Stock using the Thinlit and the snip off the edges and keep the part you want.  I sponged it with Soft Suede to give it a little extra dimension.  Then using the Thinlit again, cut a piece of Crushed Curry Card Stock and sponge a few of the hexagons and place them on the filled spaces of the hive base.  I attached it to a Naturals Ivory base card using Glue Dots placed under the filled hexagons and let the the edges stay unattached to add a little dimension.  Next for the bee.  This fellow is from Backyard Basics and I have to say the set holds a special place for me.  You see, the Artisan Design Team has two of the most wonderful women at the home office that help us.  Together, they gave each team member a choice of some Stampin’ Up product as a Christmas present and I chose this set.  I just got it when the February box came so I obviously had to use it right away.  Thank you Gwen and Chrissy for this awesome gift!!!    Ok..back to the bee.  I stamped him in Early Espresso and colored using my Blender Pen and using direct marker with Soft Suede and Crushed Curry inks. Then I cut him out by hand.  There is a framelit that goes with him but I wanted a really close cut so I just took my time and did it.  The sentiment is from Six-Sided Sampler and is a perfect fit, don’t you think??  A few Basic Pearls to finish this one off.

So what do you think?  I love to hear how you feel about this one and I can’t make it TOOO easy for the blog candy so here it is.  Leave me a comment before Sunday, Feb. 23rd at 6p Eastern and tell me what you love about the new shapes in the Occasions Catalog.  The hexagons, the triangles, the starbursts…all so amazing.  Let me know your favorite and why!  I’m giving away the stamp set Geometrical AND the new Triangle Punch that goes with it to a random commenter.  I’ll use a random number generator to choose but can only mail within the US.  Ok…that isn’t too hard is it?

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.

Best Decision Ever – Fun Stamping

Best Decision Ever – Fun Stamping published on No Comments on Best Decision Ever – Fun Stamping

So what is one of the best decisions you have ever made??  I can say without reservations that becoming a Stampin’ Up demonstrator was one of mine.  Why?  The people!  Ok, the products are amazing, the company is extraordinary, customer service is an example others should follow but the people….  That is where this decision has impacted me the most.  When my dear upline Brandi planted the seed for me to become a demo, I could have never predicted where the journey would take me.  My husband got me my demonstratorship as a birthday present.  Yep….pretty awesome present!!  If someone had told me then that I would even enter the Artisan Design Team competition, I would have laughed.  That fact that I actually BECAME one of those team members is beyond anything I could have dreamed.  The friendships that I have developed with other members of my upline, with my FMS team mates, with the Stampin’ Addicts, with the Artisan Design Team, and with so many other amazing stampers are precious to me in a way that defies explanation.  My life is more blessed because I took that step to become a demonstrator!

So when we got this stamp set called Best Decision Ever for the Leadership Display Boards, I fell in love.  I fell in love with everything behind that stamp!  I wanted to created a really cute card that reflects the fun in stamping with friends and I hope I did it here.  This one meant a lot to me!

Best Decision Ever - Stamping Fun

Using this fun paper from Kaleidescope DSP I created a square 4-1/4″ card (use Whisper White as the base underneath).  Then stamp this fun sentiment in Strawberry Slush.  I cut it by hand before the Word Bubbles Framelits were available but those would make the card even faster.  Tie on a button with some White Baker’s Twine and done.  But really, this needed a special envelope don’t you think?  Yeah, me too.  So I made one with the same DSP using the Envelope Punch Board.  The rounded corners on the card are from the Punch Board too.

This set is an incentive set available as a demonstrator.  This card is fun to use if you already are a demo (and you already know what I mean about becoming a demo).  If you are not, consider it.  Really.  It is a decision that might be one of your best ever too!

Geometrical – Hooray for Today

Geometrical – Hooray for Today published on No Comments on Geometrical – Hooray for Today

I realized that I hadn’t shown you any of my scrapbook pages made for the Leadership Display Board and thought that would be a fun way to end the week.  I’ll start with a little background.  My boys are Lego boys…all three of them!!  Sometimes I feel as if the Legos will take over the house but they love playing and creating and building, so I accept it and move along.  Since the day it opened the boys have been talking about Legoland Florida and have wanted to go there.  When we took our vacation in October, we were finally able to go.  They were crazy, ecstatically, ridiculously happy!!  Thus this page.

Geometrical - Hooray page

The primary colors from the Legoland sign and the red in the boys shirts told me what colors to use for this.  I tried to keep the feel of the page fun and kind of silly, just like the day.  I used a base of Crumb Cake mounted on Real Red and started building.  The triangles from Geometrical create fun arrows and the designs go so well with Polka Dot Parade DSP and the Gingham Garden Washi Tape.  I created some strips from those and added them at angles then stapled to add detail.  The dates were added using the Remember This Rotary Stamp.  I love this stamp.  So great for so many scrapping projects!  The little arrow from Hung Up Cute Clips makes sure the date gets emphasis.  Finally the sentiment from See Ya’ Later captured the feeling!

I had to send this one off of course but made duplicate pictures so I can build a series of matching pages from all the adventures of the day.  I hope your week has been wonderful!  Happy Valentine’s Day to you all and I will see you again on Monday.  Thanks for stopping in!

Freshly Made Sketches #123

Freshly Made Sketches #123 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #123

FMS Final 123-001

Well the Freshly Made Sketches gallery from last week blew me away and I have a feeling this week will be the same.  The lovely Jen Brum has created this fun sketch for us to use and I love it!

FMS123 - Hip Prints

Ok, so where Jen sees circles, I see triangles.  Using the Triangle Punch and the Fresh Prints DSP stack made this so fun to put together.  I just randomly chose some patterns I like and popped out the triangles.  I thought this cute little sentiment from Hip Notes was perfect for the feel of the card (and I needed a card for my awesome nephew).  I stamped in Real Red ink and then put the triangles up on Dimensionals.  I used some Baker’s Twine from the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit and tied it onto a Cherry Cobbler button (which goes wonderfully with the Real Red in the DSP).  The layer got Coastal Cabana “frame” and then that panel went up on Dimensionals to attach it to the Real Red base.  On the inside I used the “Hooray for today” sentiment from Sale-a-bration.

I’m guessing you know what I will say.  But yes, the design team has rocked this sketch and you need to get right over to check out their work.  Make sure you play along and let Jen B know how much you love the sketch!

I’ll be back on Friday with another one of my Leadership display projects.  Until then, I hope your week is wonderful!  Thanks so much for stopping in!

Artisan Wednesday Wow – Ampersand

Artisan Wednesday Wow – Ampersand published on 13 Comments on Artisan Wednesday Wow – Ampersand

02-Feb-Blog-Hop-Button

The Artisan Design Team’s February box of products is fantastic.  Were you as wowed by last week’s projects as I was?  We are continuing to use some of the latest and greatest from the Occasions Catalog.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Feb - Ampersand

So, the Ampersand Embossing Folder.  I know these little symbols are incredibly trendy (yea, Stampin’ Up!) but what to show you?  One of my favorite suites in the new Occasions Catalog is the Watercolor Wonder Suite.  The DSP (just got it and wow), the notecards (ditto) and the pretty stamps.  So that was my inspiration.  I took Watercolor Paper and cut a panel to emboss (4″ x 5-1/2″) and ran it through the Big Shot with the Ampersand Embossing Folder.  Then I grabbed Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink Pads.  I squished the lids (that is the official term) and then opened the pads to get the ink from the inside of the lids.  Using my Aquapainter, I picked up the ink and started coloring.  Just let the ink run out and keep the colors a bit uneven and imperfect.  When I was happy with the coloring, I took some splotches from Gorgeous Grunge and inked first in Daffodil Delight and then touched on a little Pumpkin Pie.  I stamped off a little and then added the splotches randomly.  The whole panel was popped up on Dimensionals and put on a card base made of Watercolor Paper.

AWW Feb - Ampersand inside

So I told you yesterday that this would be a non-standard Valentine.  On the inside of the card, I chose the stamp from Perfect Pennants that has another ampersand in it.  Again I inked first with Daffodil Delight and the rolled on some Pumpkin Pie (always use the lightest color first).  I spritzed the inked stamp with water so that the stamped image would mimic the look of the front (I practiced a few times first to make sure I had it down – clean off the stamp before each reinking).

I think this will be my DH’s Valentine so shhhh….don’t tell him!  Making a whole card of Watercolor Paper is not for every day cards but perfect for special ones…he’s worth it!!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.
