Convention Highlights

Convention Highlights published on No Comments on Convention Highlights

It might be a misnomer to call this the highlight post because for me, ALL of Convention was a highlight!!  Seriously…every minute was full of something amazing.  I got to hang out with my friends, see all the great new stuff that Stampin’ has coming our way and see my name in lights.  Pretty crazy!!  So I will start with the boards.  Here are my projects.  I’m not going into any detail because we are planning a blog hop with all of the Artisan Finalists.  I can’t wait!!!

And I have a picture of us up on stage.  I look forward to getting a copy that the camera man took since some of us were blocked a bit.

It was so fun hanging out with friends!  I have used pictures taken by some of them so I hope they don’t mind!

Thank You!!

Thank You!! published on 9 Comments on Thank You!!

Artisan Finalist AnnouncementOk, I know the picture is a little dark but this is me when the 20 Artisan Finalists were announced at the Awards Night.  I do have some more pictures and will post as soon as I get them edited.

I am finally home and recovering from all the excitement of Convention!  Wow, what an amazing few days!  I cannot believe that it went by so quickly.  On the bright side, I actually slept in a little this morning…the first time in a couple of weeks!  I will say that the song lyrics “back to life, back to reality” have been playing in my head all day but I’m still enjoying just thinking about all the fun!

So for the thank yous.  I’m pretty sure that I have a list about a mile long but I really do want to make sure I get as many as possible.  First, my family!  I owe my husband, my boys, my mom and all of my family a huge thank you.  Without you, none of this would be.  They have allowed me to stretch this new and different set of wings and encouraged me to do so (albeit with funny and mocking Stampin’ Up songs in the house!).  I came home to find this last and most special Artisan prize.  I love my boys!!

1002871_10200930944649505_511147686_nThen I have to thank my friends who started stamping with me.  Anyone who has been a demonstrator has probably had a customer just like me.  I went to my first Stampin’ Up event basically kicking and screaming as a favor to a friend.  You see, I told them that I was not crafty and I don’t do crafty.  Yep….never let anyone get away with that one!!  Lisa, Christine and Candice, thanks for getting me into that first club!

My local customers…well, they are really simply my friends who stamp with me.  All of you inspire me and yes, put up with me making you tie lots and lots of bows.  I appreciate your humor and your never-ending support of my business!!

Now, the community of stampers.  My upline Brandi, my second level Lisa, my stamping friends over at Stampin’ Addicts, the FMS team, my former SUO Challenges team and all of you who follow this blog.  Stampers are the most kind and generous group of people that anyone could ever hope to meet.  There is just something that is deep in the DNA that makes them want to share!  The support I have had from so many of you has overwhelmed me and I am grateful beyond words.

I would be remiss if I didn’t add a shout out to United Airlines.  You see, when I signed up to go to Convention I didn’t have a schedule.  So, when the July flying schedules started coming out, the first thing that happened was that I was schedule for a check ride (flying test) the same weekend as Convention.  Another pilot switched with me to make it work. Three cheers for Brian!  Then the regular schedule came and I was supposed to work for 3 of the days.  I called my flight office and they managed to move days around to allow for the days off.  I know that airlines can seem impersonal but United really stepped up on this and I just want to thank them!

So the box.  Yes, we got a cool box as we walked off the stage!  Want to see what is in it??

Artisan box

Artisan box inside

The yellow box holds a specially designed bracelet that all the Artisan winners get.  The little box on the right has a back of card stamp with my name and the Artisan logo (yippee!!).  The card in the middle congratulated us and gave us all the info we need to know to get started.

Ok…this is really long so thanks for staying with me.  That check ride I mentioned, well it is this coming Friday so I will try to post more if I can.  I have a lot of studying to do (yep,  that song is still playing in my head).  Thank you so much for stopping in today.  I look forward to sharing all the projects I made for the contest with you.  I’ll post the pictures of my board tomorrow!  Until then, have a great day!

Artisan Finalist Card Swap

Artisan Finalist Card Swap published on 9 Comments on Artisan Finalist Card Swap

I am so excited to share some news from Stampin’ Up Convention.  Last night was Awards Night and the announced the Artisan Design Team.  I am humbled and awed to tell you that I am one of the ten members.  It has been such an incredible few days and I have lots to share when I get back.  Until then, I want to show you a card I made for a swap created for the 20 Artisan Finalists.  The cards I got in return are stunning!!

Artisan Finalist Swap 1I really wanted to make a Christmas card for this swap and decided that this beautiful leaf from Simply Sketched (hostess set) would be the way to go.  While this card has a lot of “white” space, it is in no way simple to make.  Especially not simple times 27!  I’ll give you the basics though.  I stamped the leaf with Early Espresso and then using a mask, stamped it again to get the leaves to layer properly.  I colored them with a blender pen using Always Artichoke and Cherry Cobbler ink.  Then the waterspots were added with Crumb Cake ink (stamped off) and the stamp from the intro My Paper Pumpkin kit (the spots from the new Gorgeous Grunge would be great here but I won’t get it until Convention).  The sentiment from More Merry Messages seemed perfect.  That set is a carry over and is still available!!  Then I pulled out my distressing tool and distressed all the edges.  After that, I went back and sponged all the distressed edges with more Crumb Cake ink.  I created shabby bows with Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding and tied them up with Linen Thread and Vintage Faceted Buttons.  Of course it would not be complete without the inside so:

Artisan Finalist Swap 3I stamped the leaf again and watercolored some more.  The sentiment is another one from More Merry Messages.  It is a must have set, in my opinion!  For this swap, we created full cards and I did say 27.  While there are only 20 finalists, some of the Concept Artists from Stampin’ Up joined in the swap.  How exciting!!!

I loved this card so much that I am planning on using it as a class card in August.  Local stampers, watch for the invitation!  *smile*

Thank you so much for stopping in today.  I look forward to sharing more of my Convention pictures next week!  Until then, I hope your weekend is wonderful!  See you soon!

Stamps:  Simply Sketched (Hostess), More Merry Messages; Paper:  Naturals Ivory, Cherry Cobbler; Ink:  Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake; Accessories:  Blender Pen, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Stampin’ Distress Tool, Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, Linen Thread, Vintage Faceted Buttons, Dimensionals, Sticky Strip

Convention Gifts

Convention Gifts published on 2 Comments on Convention Gifts

Today is the day!!  Stampin’ Up’s annual Convention begins at 5p and I am so excited!!  One of the best parts of this event is seeing my amazing stamping friends.  Traditionally, roommate gifts are given and it is fun to conjure up what to make.  Since we all are given the same bag (can’t wait to see it), bag tags are always a big hit.  I thought it would be fun to create monograms for them.  Hint:  I used a variation of this idea for one of my Artisan projects!!

Roommate gift 2Roommate Gift 3

I took some basic wooden letters that come from the craft store and painted them white.  Then I layered on the Gingham Garden Washi Tape.  Just leave the edges hanging at first. Once the letter is covered, use an exacto knife to trim around the edges.  This is a remarkably quick project once you get the hang of it!  To add to the durability of this, I put on a couple of layers of Modge Podge.  Once dry all I had to do was add the Rose Red Seam Binding.  I think they are really cute and I hope they like them!  The “B” is for my immediate upline Brandi and the “L” is for my second level upline Lisa Curcio.  They have both been such amazing supporters of my work so it was fun to make a little something for them (Lisa isn’t a roommate but she “needs” one!)!!

Roommate gift 1I kept the rest simple.  These fun retro mason jars were too cute to pass up!  I stuffed them full of Convention supplies and just tied on some Island Indigo Chevron Ribbon.  Hopefully they will be able to use these jars in their craft rooms.  I love them for holding all kinds of things!

Ok, that is it for today.  If you have any extra questions about the tags, just let me know.  I’ll be back on Saturday with the card I made for the Artisan Finalist Swap.  Think Christmas and watercoloring!!  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you again soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #95

Freshly Made Sketches #95 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #95

FMS Final 95-001Wednesday is my favorite stamping day of the week because it is Freshly Made Sketches day but today is even better because today I leave for Stampin’ Up Convention!!  Yea!!  First, about the sketch.  It is courtesy of the awesome Narelle Farrugia, queen of the elegant card!  I knew I would have fun with this one the minute I saw it.

FMS95 - Gingham ThanksI kept mine pretty simple since I have been running around getting ready for Convention (and flying too).  I thought that the prints from Gingham Garden DSP would be perfect for the sketch.  I hadn’t used these two and I love them together.  Something about the Island Indigo and Daffodil Delight feels like summer to me so I thought a butterfly would be a nice way to accent the card.  So another of the prints from the set was run through my Beautiful Wings Embosslit to get the two butterfly layers (they are facing prints).  The sentiment is from Six-Sided Sampler, a current favorite.  For the banner element, I chose to use some of the Sale-a-bration ribbon with a Daffodil button.  That ribbon is so pretty!  Yep, a fun and simple little card that just makes me happy!

I will say that the team has created their normal a-maz-ing cards for the week!  If you haven’t already, go take a look and hopefully you’ll be able to play along!

Convention!!  I am so excited to go that I can hardly sleep!  So many of my stamping friends together!  I am rooming with my fabulous upline Brandi and the oh-so-talented Heidi Baks.  I have swaps with the Control Freaks and all of the Artisan Award Finalists…those are both sure to be jaw-dropping!!  And of course, there will be the final announcement of the Artisan Award winners on Friday.  Plus, the full, full days of fun and stamping!  I FINALLY get to start sharing some of the things I have been working on.  Tomorrow I will share my roommate gifts, Saturday I will have my Artisan Finalist swap card and next week lots more.  I will only have my IPad with me on the trip and will have my posts pre-written.  If there are any big updates, I will do my best to add them in!

Ok, I hope your week is awesome and if you are going to Convention, I hope to see you there!  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you tomorrow!

Stamp:  Six-Sided Sampler; Paper:  Gingham Garden DSP, Island Indigo, Whisper White; Ink:  Island Indigo; Accessories:  Big Shot, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Crystal Effects (as glue), SAB ribbon, Brights Buttons (ret), White Baker’s Twine

Freshly Made Sketches #94

Freshly Made Sketches #94 published on 11 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #94

FMS94-LindaS-20130710Take a look at this cool sketch!!  Clean and yet very modern looking, don’t you think?  Over at Freshly Made Sketches our sketch hostess this week is Linda Suarez.  She has such a great style and I just love that she brought us this to play with!!

FMS94 - Oh ChevronsI decided to keep this really clean and stamp the diagonal.  What better to use than the chevrons from Oh Hello!!  It seemed a little plain so I added a flower made from the Fun Flowers Die.  I spritzed the flower with water and then formed it a bit to give it dimension.  I added a little center from the Boho Blossoms Punch and a tiny button tied with Linen Thread.  The sentiment is from the new hostess set Express Yourself and I am in love with it!  Yes, I seem to always fall in love with a good sentiment set and this one is wonderful!

The variety of the cards from the design team is amazing!  No surprise…they always are!  Make sure you go take a look and let Linda know how much you appreciate the sketch!

I am about 75% done with my swaps for Convention and finishing up some roommate gifts too.  The good news?  Starting with Convention, I’ll have lots of things to post!!  For now, I’ll just keep working and taking pictures so I’ll be able to share.  I hope your week is fabulous!  See you soon!

Stamps:  Oh Hello, Express Yourself; Paper:  Naturals Ivory, Tea for Two DSP; Ink:  Calypso Coral, Wild Wasabi, So Saffron, Marina Mist; Accessories:  Big Shot, Fun Flowers Die, Boho Blossoms Punch, Neutrals Buttons, Linen Thread, Stamp-a-ma-jig

FMS Final 93-001

Happy Wednesday to you all!  I am back with this awesome sketch from the oh-so-talented Allisa Chilton.  I love the clean lines and when I saw the square, I immediately thought “frame”.

FMS93 - Framed butterflyI am in love with this instagram/polaroid picture trend so I decided to give it a go.  I started with the two strips of Washi Tape and then created the little frame using my paper cutter.  I stamped the chevron oval from Oh, Hello and then used my Beautiful Butterflies Die to punch out the butterfly.  The smaller one uses a Six-Sided Sampler hexagon and the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  The sentiment is also from Oh, Hello and I used the new little buttons!

Sorry for the short post!  The Convention preparation has begun in earnest and I am working on swaps today.  The Artisan Finalist group is planning one so that is my work for today (I am still just so excited about getting the call!!).

I love this sketch and there are some great cards from the design team today!  I look forward to seeing what you share with us too!  Thanks for stopping in today!  See you again soon!

Stamps:  Oh, Hello, Six-Sided Sampler; Paper:  Whisper White, Basic Gray, Daffodil Delight; Ink:  Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight; Accessories:  Big Shot, Beautiful Butterflies Die, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Gingham Garden Washi Tape, Epic Day Washi Tape, Neutrals Buttons, Baker’s Twine

Epic Hexagons

Epic Hexagons published on 2 Comments on Epic Hexagons

Hawaii Ink New Catty HopBack today to share a little more about my card from yesterday’s blog hop.  I already mentioned how much I love the hexagons but let me tell you a little more about the punch.  Obviously I used the punch on some of the prints from Epic Day DSP to create the hexagons but I also used it on the vertical panel to create the flag ends.  Doing that adds to some of the card’s symmetry and that makes me really happy.  Where else did I use it??  On the tag ends, of course.  I love a punch with lots of uses!!  Another thing on the card that makes me really happy from the new catalog…the buttons!   All three sizes are round!!!  Yes, the little tiny ones too.  Perfect for a masculine card like this one.  Matching with the style of the Epic Day paper, I sponged all the edges with Crumb Cake ink and stamped a little piece of the lined DSP for the sentiment.  While I didn’t use the hexagon stamps on this one, I did use the sentiments from Six-Sided Sampler.  They are great and the fonts are really fun!

Ok, well that is about it.  If you have any questions about this card, please let me know!  If you missed the hop just go back to yesterday’s post and all the links are there!

I’ll be back on Wednesday with a new Freshly Made Sketches Challenge.  Until then, have a great week!

Hawaii Ink New Catalog Blog Hop!

Hawaii Ink New Catalog Hop-003

Welcome to the Hawaii Ink New Catalog Blog Hop!!  I am so excited to share some of our favorite products from the newest Stampin’ Up catalog with you!  For a quick background, Hawaii Ink is the downline of the amazing Lisa Curcio.  She is our team leader and we have over 100 demonstrators that span from Hawaii, to the continental U.S. to Germany.  Many of us are, or have been, associated with the military which explains our great diversity!  There are experienced demonstrators and brand new ones too, and we all share a love of creativity and Stampin’ Up!

Before I get to the hop, I have something really special to share.  It seems fitting to share it on a hop with Hawaii Ink.  I was called yesterday and told that I AM A FINALIST for Stampin’ Up’s Artisan Award contest!!!  For those of you who follow me, you already know I had entered.  I submitted ten projects for consideration and will find out if I am in the top ten Artisan Award Winners on July 19th at the annual Convention.  I pretty much already consider myself a winner because to be in the top twenty finalists is such an honor!!

Now for the hop!  If you have been following along, you came over from Emily Abad.  Awesome work, don’t you think??  Such a great way to launch into blogging!  I look forward to seeing more that she creates.  I chose to work with the product that made me jump up with excitement when I saw it.

Hawaii Ink New Catty Hop

One of the very best things about the new catalog, in my opinion??  HEXAGONS!!  I love them!  The new Hexagon Punch is so easy to use and it adds a modern flair to whatever you make.  I used the punch in a number of ways here and I will be happy to share more info about that when I return on Monday!  I paired the Hexagon Punch with the Six-Sided Sampler stamp set.  They are, after all, a bundle!!  Epic Day DSP in another of my real favorites so I pulled it out for this card!

For the next stop on the hop is Jo Anne Waterhouse.  She is another brand new blogger!!  I love her creativity and you will too!

Thanks so much for stopping in today!  I look forward to seeing you again Monday (tomorrow) for more details on my card.

FMS Final 92-001

Another week gone so quickly and it is my favorite stamping day again!!  We have a fresh new sketch for you this week over at Freshly Made Sketches.  This one comes courtesy of the lovely Jen Brum.  Cool, huh??!!

FMS92 - Gingham ThanksI’m afraid that my card doesn’t do the sketch justice this week but some weeks are like that!  I have been gone lots.  Just got home from a trip last night and am now fighting a nasty cough/no voice.  Ugh!!  Summer flying is definitely in full swing along with weather delays and other things that make the flying days long and the sleeps too short.  In any case, I used the Gingham Garden DSP and cut the curve into it by hand.  I added the Stretch Ruffled Ribbon again because it drapes on the curve so well.  The flowers were fussy cut out of the DSP and I added the sentiment from Six-Sided Sampler.

I am hoping for some stamping time later today and tomorrow.  I will be participating in a fun blog hop with my upline’s group Hawaii Ink on Sunday!  Make sure you stop back then to see what we have to show you from the new catalog!!

Until then, so glad you dropped in!  I appreciate each of you and thank you all for the kind words you leave me!  Now make sure you get over to the challenge site!  There are some really cool cards by the DT this week!  See you soon!
