Welcome to the Winter Holiday Blog Hop from the Stampin’ Addicts!  I am so excited to share this hop with some of my favorite stampers.  The Stampin’ Addicts are a supportive group of crafters who love Stampin’ Up.  I have been an “Addict” for years and love hopping with them.  If you have come over from Debra Burgin of Heartfelt Inkspiration, I know you were wow’d by her Wonderful Wreath projects!  I love all of the seasonal projects she created!  If you are starting here, just hop all the way around using the buttons on each post.  You won’t want to miss a thing!

I chose to make projects using the Expressions Thinlits and I am so happy I did!  These little words are so fun to use!  I made one card for each word and will show them in order of their respective holidays.

Holiday Hop - ThankfulFirst up is Thanksgiving!  Ok, this really could be used all autumn long but it really looks like Thanksgiving to me.  I used some burlap and attached it to a Baked Brown Sugar layer then added the leaves from Magnificent Maple and the thinlit word.  That whole panel is popped up on Dimensionals.  The thinlit and leaves are attached using Crystal Effects (a light hand).

Holiday Hop - Merry Christmas

Next up is Christmas and what better than combining the thinlit with a great sentiment stamp.  I chose More Merry Messages because I like the script paired with the traditional font.  Just add in this great print from Season of Style and you get a fun card that is easy to duplicate.  A few buttons finish it off!

Holiday Hop - Love You

Finally, a little bit of of a Valentine’s preview.  Although this is just a great card for any special person!  Ok, Jennifer, where did you get the thought bubble?!  It is just an oval cut out with the Ovals Framelits and then I snipped the extra triangle out…yep, quick and fun!  The “you!” comes from Yippee Skippee and I added in a little bit of Epic Day Washi Tape that I placed first on Whisper White card stock.  There is Cherry Cobbler behind the thought bubble so it seemed perfect to add in Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine too.

Ok.  Now you can see why you NEED these little thinlits.  You may have seen this tip before but add a little piece of waxed paper between the paper you are cutting and the thinlit to make it easier to pop it out.

Now off to the fantastic blog of Paula Wright of Stampin’ with Paula!  You will love what she has created with the Gift Bow Die!

Freshly Made Sketches #106

Freshly Made Sketches #106 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #106

FMS Final 106-001I just love this week’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, don’t you?!  No surprise since it is from the awesome Amy O’Neill and I love everything she makes.  Now I have to admit that I am not sure I have done it justice because I am really pressed for time this week so please make sure you go check the inspiration from the rest of the team.  Some gorgeous work!

FMS106 - Medallion Four YouI kept to a really clean card today.  Everything is stamped in Midnight Muse (love that color) onto Very Vanilla paper.  I thought the big medallion from Daydream Medallions was perfect for the sketch and I added a layer using the birthday sentiment from Four You.  This is such a great all purpose set!  To add a little bit of a special feel, I pulled out my Basic Pearls and added them all around the medallion and to the sentiment too.  I have to say that I really like a clean card and this one is easy to duplicate.  Maybe change the color and add some Basic Rhinestones to make it girlie!

I can’t wait to see the gallery this week.  I know it is going to be fantastic!  Make sure you go tell Amy how much you like her sketch too!

If you missed it, I posted my first Artisan Wednesday Wow using the new October box earlier.  Links to the hop are there as always.  Speaking of hops…I will be participating in one with my friends the Stampin’ Addicts starting on Friday.  We are celebrating the Holiday Catalog and I can’t wait to share my projects (yes, there are three!).  See, now you know why I was pressed for time, lol!  I hope your day is great and I look forward to seeing you Friday.

Artisan Wednesday Wow – Truly Grateful

AWW Oct Hop

Can you believe it?!  Stampin’ Up’s Artisan Design Team is on to our October box!  For those of you who are unfamiliar, the team gets a box of fabulous SU products to create our projects each month.  This month we have a lot to be thankful for because Stampin’ Up has so many beautiful Thanksgiving and fall things.  If you have come over from uber talented Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Oct - Grateful

My inspiration for this card started with this gorgeous stamp set.  When I saw the ribbon on the wheat, I knew I wanted to put one on the card too.  I chose Pool Party and Smoky Slate as my colors.  I stamped off the chevron image and put it behind the wheat then colored the wheat itself with a pencil.  My amazing friend Heidi Baks has done this and I stored the idea away for the perfect day.  I thought this was it!  The ribbon on the stamp was colored with a Pool Party Marker.  I put the words from Background Basics behind the ribbon to add a little more detail and made a “shabby” bow from Pool Party Seam Binding.  A little stitching on the panels and some Basic Pearls to finish it off.

Starting with next week’s Artisan Wednesday Wow, I will start a series of projects using one of the kits from the Holiday Catalog.  Next up on the hop is the fantastic Mercedes Weber.  Make sure hop around the whole loop to take a look at fabulous creations of the whole team…you’ll be happy you did!

Glittered Pumpkins

Glittered Pumpkins published on 7 Comments on Glittered Pumpkins

I promised you a bonus project today and I am so excited to share this with you.  Those of you who have been following for a while know that I am not much of a glitter girl.  The mess kind of, well, messes with me.  But sometime a project is just worth it.  This is one of them!  And it is so crazy easy!  Take a look:

Glittered PumpkinsYeah, I know…they are so cool, right?!  Just wait until you see the supply list.  Here it is:  pumpkins (whatever size you like), basic glue, foamy applicator and Stampin’ Glitter in Black and Orange (they come as a pack).  That’s it, that’s all.  So you take some glue (I used plain old Elmer’s) and put it in a little container.  I have some old button boxes that work perfectly for this.  Take your little foamy brush and paint on the glue.  Be generous.  I probably needed a little more with the black pumpkin (it was my first one).  With a big pumpkin you would probably want to do this in phases but I painted the whole thing. Then sprinkle on the glitter and set aside to dry.  Ok, you are done.  Mine took about a day to really dry well and now they are ready to use.  See, I told you it was easy.  And aren’t they pretty??!  Stampin’ Up may turn me into a glitter girl yet!

I hope you enjoy this and can’t wait to hear if you try it!  I’ll be back next week with a new Artisan box of goodies (think Fall and Thanksgiving) and of course another FMS card.  Until then, I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  Thanks for stopping in today!

FMS Final 105-001

It’s Freshly Made Sketches day!!!  And we have a cool sketch for you this week…apparently it’s hip to be square!  The oh-so-talented Allisa Chilton has created this one for us and you are sure to love it!

FMS105 - Fall blessings

In my Artisan Wednesday Wow post earlier today I told you how much I love fall!  Well, I’m on a roll in making fall projects (you’ll see more in the upcoming weeks).  With all that was out on my stamp table, this card practically came together by itself.  Much of this card comes from the Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit.  The leaf (no dies required) and some of these paper are in it.  While you can use the kit to actually create the intended project, you can also use it for other things…like this card!  The Chocolate Chip square is from Sweater Weather DSP and was leftover piece too.  Oh…need I mention that the DSP and the kit coordinate perfectly?  Of course they do.  The sentiment is inked with a Chocolate Chip marker and is from Harvest of Thanks.  I added on some 7/16″ Trim Ribbon and a retired Cajun Craze button tied with some Linen Thread from the kit.

I guess I’m not the only one who is falling for fall!  Take a look at the FMS design team to see what I mean!  Of course the team has some other amazing ideas to share too.  I hope you can play along with us this week…I’ll look for you there!

I will be back on Friday with a bonus project I made with some of my September Artisan products.  I hope you’ll stop back by then to take a look!  Have a great day!

It is time for Stampin’ Up’s Artisan Design Team to show you some amazing things from our September box!  For those of you who are unfamiliar, the team gets a box of fabulous SU products to create our projects each month.  This is our last week of projects with this box and I have been so in love with the team’s work.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Sep - Autumn Maple Leaves

This is one of those cards that just made me happy as I created it.  I love fall!  The crisp air, apple picking, football and the coloring of the leaves.  I pulled out Magnificent Maple to see if I could capture those colors and I love this stamp.  The leaves were actually created first and then I built a card around them.  They are stamped in Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry, fussy cut then sponged with Early Espresso ink.  I partially inked up the Dictionary stamp with Crumb Cake and stamped onto a Naturals Ivory panel.  Next I created this bow tied up with a Vintage Faceted Button and Linen Thread.  I layered in the Tea Lace Paper Doily then framed the stamped panel with Early Espresso and placed it on a Baked Brown Sugar card base.

I hope this card puts you in the mood to create some autumn projects too!  Next up on the hop is the oh so talented Mercedes Weber.  Make sure hop around the whole loop to take a look at fabulous creations of the whole team…you’ll be happy you did!

Halloween Hello

Halloween Hello published on 2 Comments on Halloween Hello

Happy Sunday evening to you!  I hope the weekend was wonderful.  I have a bonus card to share with you.  It is one of the cards that my Hostess Club made during our get-togethers this week and it uses my favorite Halloween set from the Holiday Catalog, Halloween Happiness.

Hostess Club HalloweenI just think this little group of pumpkins is adorable!  And so fun to use for a great little card.  I put them together with the Witches’ Brew DSP to create this.  Did you know that the pumpkins line up perfectly on this tag shape from the Apothecary Accents Framelits? Me neither.  It was a happy accident when I grabbed the wrong die set.  Then I realized this was even better than my original design.  Do you notice the little edges framing the black DSP?  Those are courtesy of the Tiny Wave Rotary Blade on the new Stampin’ Trimmer (rotary arm).  I was a little slow to move on this but it really is a superior cutting system.  I inked up the pumpkins with Stampin’ Write Markers and then stamped the pumpkins again so I could cut a couple out.  I added an additional strip of the Pumpkin Pie DSP inside and the sentiment from the stamp.  My club ladies enjoyed making this one (and the butterfly Artisan card from a couple of weeks ago).

I’ll be back Wednesday (Tuesday night for subscribers) for the Artisan Wednesday Wow Hop and later Wednesday morning for the next Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  Until then, I hope the beginning of your week is wonderful!  See you again soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #104

Freshly Made Sketches #104 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #104

FMS104-LindaS-20130918I am happy to be back with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our sketch hostess this week is wonderful Linda Suarez and she has brought us an awesome layout!  Just looking at the variety from the design team, I know this is going to be another fun week in the gallery (last week was so great!).

FMS104 - Happy birthdayI decided it would be fun to flip the sketch and play with some new things that hadn’t even left their packaging.  I need a card for my dear brother-in-law so I tried to keep it “man card” enough too.  The first thing I broke out was the Chalk Talk Framelits and right after that, Yippee-Skippee.  The papers from Sweater Weather DSP were just what I needed for this one.  I made the Chocolate Chip tag by cutting the paper to the width of the framelit and sliding it under only on the side with the clipped corners.  Then I stamped the sentiment on the Sahara Sand print and cut it out with another of the framelits.  I added on some chevrons cut out with the Chevron Border Punch.  Finally some Soft Sky Seam Binding was tied on with a Crushed Curry button and some Linen Thread.  Now look at that…I used all the colors from the Fab Friday challenge this week too (and I never use that many colors!).  I look forward to giving this to my brother-in-law and can’t wait to meet up with him and the family for his celebration.

Fab Fri Logos-026 Now head right on over to FMS to see the great cards from the design team this week…then don’t forget to link up and join in!  Thanks to all of you who made such kind comments on my 9-11 post last week.  Your words spoke straight to my heart and I’m deeply appreciative!

My Wednesday Artisan project, a burlap flower box,  went up a little earlier so don’t forget to go check it out!  See you again soon!  Have a great week!

Artisan Wednesday Wow – Burlap Flower Box

Artisan Wednesday Wow – Burlap Flower Box published on 10 Comments on Artisan Wednesday Wow – Burlap Flower Box

09-Sept-Blog-Hop-Button

It is time for Stampin’ Up’s Artisan Design Team to show you some amazing things from our September box!  For those of you who are unfamiliar, the team gets a box of fabulous SU products to create our projects each month.  Our projects this week were all posted last Friday on the Stampin’ Up Facebook page (so run right over and follow it).  If you have come over from Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

Sep FB - Jennifer Burlap Flower Box

I wanted to create some packaging that felt like fall for this week’s project.  I always love when the packaging gets a “wow”.  I think it shows the recipient how much they really mean!  I am completely in love with this 1-1/4″ Burlap Ribbon and I knew it HAD to be used on this box.  What better way than to create a flower with it?  The key to this flower is the awesome (and I mean AWESOME) Silicone Craft Mat.  It is like magic!

AWW Sept - Tutorial-001

You start by putting some hot glue on the mat.  With the ribbon still attached to the roll, fold the edge over and attach to the glue.  Start folding the ribbon and adding hot glue every 2-3 folds.  I find that using a toothpick helps to save my fingers from the glue (notice I said helps…be careful, the glue really hurts).  Keep going around until you have created a second layer (the second layer is on top of the first).  When you have it like you want, snip the ribbon.  Make one last fold that tucks under as you attach the last bit with hot glue.  Hold it for a bit with the toothpick and then let it rest until you are sure everything is set.  Then all you have to do is pull it off the Silicone Craft Mat (this is when you say “cool” out loud).  In order to add the Black Stampin’ Glitter edge, I ran a line of Multipurpose Liquid Glue along all the edges and sprinkled on the glitter.  The Black Vintage Faceted Designer Button is from the Halloween Banner Simply Created Accessory Kit.  I took one of the Large Pearl Basic Jewels and colored it with an orange Sharpie marker then added it to the center.

For the box, I stamped it in Versamark ink with the Dictionary stamp and then added some watermarks using Gorgeous Grunge.  Again with Versamark, I stamped the sentiment from Oh, Goodie and sprinkled on some Heat & Stick Powder, then the Black Stampin’ Glitter again.  The belly band for the box is just the layered ribbons – 1-1/4″ Burlap Ribbon, Pumpkin Pie 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon and Basic Black 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon.  All attached to each other using a little hot glue.  Make sure you only attach the ribbons to themselves and not the box.  I put a Tea Lace Paper Doily under the flower and attached them to the belly band.  Now the band slides right off (and back on once the present is opened).

As a side note, I thought this had a Halloween flare but my oldest son took one look at it and laid claim to it as the packaging for a birthday gift for his dear friend, a neighbor girl he has known since they were 2.  She loves orange so she loved this little box and the necklace that went inside.

I hope you enjoy this project.  This flower is remarkable easy to make and has many uses (I’m working on another one now).  Next up on the hop is the awesome Mercedes Weber.  Make sure you go take a look at fabulous creations of the whole team…you’ll be happy you did!

Twelve years later…

Twelve years later… published on 23 Comments on Twelve years later…

FMS Final 103-001-1

Yes, this is a Freshly Made Sketches post but please bear with me…it is also a memorial post for the heroes of 9-11.  For those who have been following me for a while, I have written September 11th post for the last three years.  You can read them here:  9th Anniversary, 10th Anniversary and 11th Anniversary.  Every year at this time I find myself reflecting on the events of that terrible day and the many challenges that have come since. The biggest challenge we face today in the industry is complacency.  When these events first happened, everyone was on heightened alert.  Today, the hassles of security and the inconveniences of the airport annoy us and tend to make us forget the why.

But the why is NOT forgotten by some.  Every single time I taxi into Boston Logan Airport, I see an American flag flying at gate C-19.  It stands there as a reminder of United Flight 175 that left there on the morning of September 11th.  I catch my breath every single time.

The why is NOT forgotten by Ellen Saracini, a widow from that same flight.  She is working on a bill in Congress to mandate secondary barriers on commercial airliners. You see, eventually during flight pilots do have to be able to come out of the flight deck and these barriers provide a line of safety for all passengers and crew.  The bill is called the Saracini Aviation Act.  The airlines do not want to spend the money for this but it is simply the right thing to do.  Mrs. Saracini is fighting to protect anyone from suffering what she has suffered.

I can promise you that I have NOT forgotten and I know that many of you have not either. Let’s make sure as we go through this day that we say thank you to first responders and military heroes who protect us every day.  Make sure we hug our family members extra tight in honor of those who can’t.  Make sure we show an extra measure of kindness to all around us because those people are what matter most.

FMS103 - Thinking of YouI guess it doesn’t take much to figure out my inspiration for today’s card.  The Soft Sky print from Sweater Weather DSP was perfect for my background.  I thought the Crushed Curry print was the perfect complement.  This sketch is courtesy of the lovely Jen Brum and it really is wonderful.  I find myself a little off every year at this time and watercoloring is one of my favorite ways to find focus.  This flower from Simply Sketched fit my mood perfectly.

Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I appreciate you for sticking through my ponderings and I thank you for being so supportive of my work.  If you missed it, I have my Artisan Design Team card that went up a bit earlier.  Please take a moment to remember today and to be grateful for the blessings in your life.
